Happy Deepavali

SMI Old Boys would like to wish a Happy Deepavali to all our Indian old boys and friends; SMI students and teachers; and all Malaysians who celebrate this festival of lights. May this Diwali be as bright as ever.

Unity in School

Some of our old boys were told by the current student that unity among races in school is not in good condition. Students prefer to be with their friends who share the same colour and faith.Are we going to see SMI students who will leave the school confined themselves with their friends of their own races?

Have we asked ourselves, do we have the opportunity to meet with our Malay, Indian and Chinese friends again after graduating from SMI?

The problem with the students particularly daily schools students is that they are so impatience to step out from the gate of the school. They are eager to be a man when actually they are not ready in becoming a man. After SPM exam they usually shouted MERDEKA!!! What Merdeka? The road is long and many winding turn ahead waiting for you. The journey of your new life is just begin.

As the results of this non perseverance, a lot of SMI students including those who are now an old boys seems to forget about their school and their school mates. They think that they are not associated or have no links with the alma mater. That is the reality.

This can be proven when one of our friends here said that he had once asked his older brother who is also a Michaelian about his school mates whether his brother had still keep in touch with them. The answer is none. The worse is he even hard to remember his friends from the other races. Ahmad lupa Muthu and Muthu pun lupa sama itu Ah Meng. That is the fact. And this is still happening even after 50 years of our nation independence.

How to overcome the cancer in this Malaysian society? We already told the current student that if it is true that it is hard for the SMI students nowadays to do as what the batch of 96 did, there is no other way for them but to unite and contacting each other the moment you were no longer the boys.

Recently, when few of us had our "teh tarik session" on the eve of Deepavali, we discussed about the unity during 1996, our graduation year. We talked about the negative side or evil side of our batch and how that evil stories turned to be a positive one. Students from our batch used to against the school regulations. Fighting, abusive words uttered to the teachers, came late to school, did not wear name tag, absent and lost in action from the school, smoking and others.

There were many stories but there were two occasions that were so important which reflects the true spirit of multiracial and togetherness among Michaelians, although the act of the incident were not approved by the school authority as it may affect the students at that time. Even the author of this blog had forgotten about this incident. Believe it or not the author was actually at the scene of the incident. It may not appropriate to be told here. Let bygone be bygone. Let the stories fade away.

The current student if they read this article may think that it is OK if we against the school regulations as the old boys had done it before. Come on brothers..the bad stories such disobey the school regulations are not to encourage you to become a bad boy. In studies we did well. Those days we just being naughty which is in line with our teen spirit. We must not cross the limit. Do not make yourself to be expelled from the school. Finish your studies in SMI with flying colours in academically or in sports and co-curriculum.

During our days if it is for the sake of SMI, the students will unite and do whatever for the name of the school including protecting our brothers whether he is a Malay, Indian or Chinese. You do not mess with SMI students and if one of our brothers in arms were harmed, we will retaliate by doing the necessary to protect them because "they ain't heavy, they are our brothers". (listen to the first song of this blog from The Hollies to understand the meaning of the phrase).

So...is it so difficult to unite in school and after school???? Only we have the answer and that answer will lead us to which path that we will take.

Kenangan 6 Biru …..

Di sini bermula perjalanan hidup aku sebagai pelajar sekolah ini dari tahun 1986 (darjah 1) sehingga tahun 1991 (darjah 6). Aku bukan seorang pelajar popular dan tak aktif di dalam apa jua bidang pun mahupun akademik, hanya pernah masuk pertandingan catur tapi malangnya kalah di suku akhir ketika umurku mencecah 11 tahun.

Ada 4 kelas di sekolah ini iaitu kelas Hijau, Biru, Merah dan Kuning . Pada tahun pertama selepas mengharungi tahu pra-sekolah, aku dimasukkan ke kelas 1 Hijau sehingga ke darjah 4. Dulu aku tidak tahu apa le istimewa sangat pasal kelas hijau ni akhirnya baru aku tahu kelas budak pandai jadi boleh le aku berbangga sekejap. Seterusnya pada tahun 5 pertama kali aku ditukar kan ke kelas 5 Merah, maka terasa amat sedih kerana terpaksa berpisah dengan kawan-kawan dan secara tidak langung prestasi akademikku jatuh.

Masa itu aku masih di alam kanak-kanak riang jadi tak berapa peduli sangat akan hal-hal akademik . Tahun berikutnya iaitu darjah 6 bertukar lagi kelas iaitu kelas 6 Biru dan di situ aku dapati kawan aku hebat-hebat belaka dari segi akademik mahupun sukan dan bangga dengan keadaan tersebut. Tapi kelas 6 Hijau tetap hebat dari segi prestasi akademik tapi kalau main bola kelas ni memang lauk. Kena belasah.

Tatkala aku imbas kembali rupanya banyak kenangan suka duka di sekolah rendah ini. Antaranya permainan harian sewaktu di sekolah sama ada sebelum masuk sekolah dan waktu rehat ialah bermain guli, main konda kondi, baling kasut , sepak takraw, main aci kejar, main jengkit jengkit, polis tentri time jumaat (ponteng sembahyang), sorok-sorok , galah panjang dan macam-macam lagi.

Kalau bab kena denda jangan cakap laa... penampar, rotan, berdiri kat luar kelas, cubit, berlari satu padang, kutip sampah, berdiri atas kerusi , junjung kerusi dan paling best kepala kena hantuk kat papan hijau yang di amalkan oleh cikgu Jalal, cikgu muzik kami sampai berbekas papan hijau itu. Masa tu aku di dalam kelas 5 merah, tak tahulah sekarang ni dah tukar atau belum papan hijau tu.

Semua denda tu pernah aku lalui dengan paksa relanya walaupun aku bukan nya pelajar yang nakal dan ianya memberi pengalaman dan pengajaran secara tak langsung. Tak sama dengan pelajar zaman sekarang. Nak kena rotan pun kena melalui Guru besar. Itu baru denda belum lagi maki hamum. Aku ingat lagi sewaktu di darjah 6 Cikgu Tang (kalau tak silap) suka marah kan pelajar dengan bahasa yang indah iaitu BANGSAT. Fuuhh memang cikgu kencing berdiri murid kencing berlari sebab menjadi ikutan para pelajar terutama pelajar senior (darjah 6).

Satu lagi peristiwa yang menyaksikan perubahan semasa aku belajar di sekolah rendah ini iaitu pakai seluar panjang. Secara tradisi sekolah ini memakai seluar pendek dan aku memakainya sehingga darjah 5. Kemudian di darjah 6 aku tukar pakai seluar panjang (sempat le setahun pakai). Antara mamat yang mengubah paradigma seluar panjang ini ialah Hafizi (ada dalam gambar) anak ustaz, masa itu darjah 4. Dia di panggil pihak sekolah untuk beri tunjuk sebab dan kalau tak silap hafizi pernah cakap kat aku yang ayah dia bertegas dengan pemakaian seluar panjang dan akhirnya di benarkan oleh pihak sekolah. Kemudian pengaruh seluar panjang ni melanda di sekolah sehinggalah sekarang.

Setakat ini saja cerita aku (buat masa ini) untuk sekolah rendah. Jadi di sini aku dedikasi kan gambar Kelas 6 Biru untuk tatapan umum supaya kenangan dapat di singkap kembali.

Kuala Kangsar- SMI Rugby team won the Division 3 title in Clifford KK 10's Under-14 Rugby Tournament which was held in royal town, Kuala Kangsar on Saturday 25-10-2008. They won after beating their opponent in the final, Sekolah Menengah Pekan Baru Parit Buntar with the score 12-0.

The one day tournament which was organized by Sekolah Menengah Clifford is part of the preparation for searching talented rugby players to represent Perak. The Division 1 title goes to MRSM Lenggong after they beat the host Clifford 'A" in the sudden death penalty after both teams were tied in full time game. Meanwhile the Division 2 title goes to MCKK "A" after they managed to defeat Sekolah Raja Tun Azlan Shah Taiping (SERATAS) and another team sent by the host, Clifford "B' won the division 4 title.

According to SMI coach Cikgu Helmi, the team is mainly consists of Form 1 and Form 2 students. He also added that the team shows some improvement in the game against the tougher opponents and he believes with more participation in rugby tournaments, this team can go far in the next couple of years. Our representative was there and from his observation the rugby in SMI has a bright future as the boys play with full passion and determination.

Budak2nye semua gile2 dan penuh degan pelbagai ragam dan karenah..banyak kisah pahit, manis dan lucu selama 2 tahun kami bersama. ni adalah gambar kelas aku yang terakhir sebelum mengakhiri zaman persekolahan tingkatan 5..semua hensem2 belaka..hehehe..

Sebelum aku coretkan panjang lebar tentang keunikan kelas aku ni..aku kenalkan satu persatu…

disebabkan banyak sangat gelaran binatang…kelas aku dah jadi macam zoo…

disebabkan semua budak kelas diketegorikan sebagai wrestler..semua nak tunjuk kekuatan masing2 termasuklah mior dan yusmi… perasan wrestler..

gambar kenangan semasa sukan sekolah..tak silap aku pada 30 mac 1996… di mana kelas aku memang tiap2 tahun tidak diberikan harapan untuk menang.. tapi tahun itu kelas aku muncul tempat kedua.. tahap paling tinggi penah dicapai..hehehe…

jadi geng2 aku abadikan gambar ni sebagai kenangan kerana itulah satu2nyer pencapaian yang terbaik dan membuatkan mr. chong bangga..

keistimewaan kelas aku ni adalah ketua kelas aku (kam tong) mengamalkan dasar kuku besi..sesiapa yang buat masalah akan dikenakan hukuman (backup beramai2) tanpa belas kasihan sehingga boleh menyebabkan hilang tulang belakang.. mangsa2 yang selalu kena..shaun, anantha, nicholas, donald, mior, yusmi, along, putra, kah wei, mohan, thang siang…dan boleh dikatakan semua kene..aku pun penah kene kut..

hehehe kelas aku juga memang baik hati sebab menyambut setiap hari lahir kawan2 dengan gaya tersendiri (kene backup setiap kali loceng berbunyi)..hehehe..

parti hari lahir yang terhebat mestilah untuk ketua kelas aku.. di mana dia dijadikan mangsa 3 papan telur, bukan itu sahaja..kelas lain juga menyambut hari lahir dia.. sesiapa yang hari lahirnya jatuh pada hari cuti akan di advance serta carry forward pada hari berikutnya.. tiada yang dapat melepaskan diri..walaubagaimana pun kami semua tak de hard feeling arr.. semua budak2 kelas menerima keadaan ini seadanya…

kelas aku pun banyak memberi gelaran kepada cikgu2 di sekolah… ramai gile yang kena bagi gelaran..ada yang ok dan de yang tak ok.. kaluau cikgu yang garang ..erm..dapatle gelaran yang kurang ok..hehehe…biasalah zaman budak2 dulu..tak berfikiran matang..dikesempatan ini aku dan geng2 kelas mintak maaf banyak2 kat cikgu2 yang diberi gelaran sama ada yang baik atau tidak..segala jasa dan penat lelah cikgu akan dihargai dan dikenang selamanya...

sehingga kini, aku dan geng2 sekolah masih keep in touch walaupun bukan semua.. aku ingin berjumpa dengan kawan2 lama aku seperti mas, along, mohan, roland, kee wee, joo wee, dan ramai lagi…

tiap2 tahun , geng2 kelas serta sebilangan kecil budak2 kelas lain akan berkumpul sekurang2nya sekali setahun sempena menyambut raya ataupun chinese new year…

untuk vai yuen dan putra.. masih belum terlambat untuk aku ucapkan selamat pengantin baru (setahu aku baru 2 org je yang berkahwin..yang lain masih bachelor..rasa2nya la).. semoga berbahagia…setakat inilah cerita aku…aku mohon maaf andai kata2 aku menyinggung mana2 pihak… moga persahabatan ini terus kekal sampai bila2…

Tomorrow the students of SMI will sit for their PMR exam from 13-17th October. Let the parents and school proud of you by doing well in every subjects which you will take. Answer the questions properly and correctly. Don't be nervous and panic. And don't forget that apart from well preparation, pray to the Almighty so that everything will be run smoothly.
