Our Teacher

And Michaelians Voice About The Teacher and The School
( Watch the newly edited slide pictures and remember our past and present teachers.)

Teachers ,

I know I'm not good at writing poems or idioms.
I also know that my words are just cold and flat.
However, the sincerity of me writing this shouldn't be compared.

I know I'm a trouble maker during schooldays.
I also know I always did not hand in my homework.
However, I do take every advises which made me who I am now.

I know I wouldn't be standing here without teachers.
I also know a word of Thank You is just not enough ,
However, I will try my best to make you proud someday ,
to show you what the green sprout that you have nurtured turns like.

Happy Teacher's Day

Thank You,
For teaching me to be a stronger person

Thank you,

Thank you,
For acting like a friend to me

Thank you,
For your caring and lots of other stuff

For all the things you gave me, I can’t thank you enough, providing knowledge that leads to success

Teacher, you do all these things, with a pleasant attitude. You’re a teacher for all seasons and you have my gratitude!

A comment from one of the old boy..
he was mistakenly posted his comment on other topic..
hope the teachers or old boys who read it can reply or discuss the topic..
yes we cant praise the teachers all the time..apart from giving compliment to great teachers..the teachers who failed to perform and make SMI performance drop should subject to criticism...a comment of construction not to destruction...

"I'm an old boy of St. Michael's Institution. I comes from Batch 2008. Mr. Louis Rozario is one of the highly respected principal in SMI and i believe everyones will agree with that. I'm not going to talk about how great the school is back in 70's,80's,90's but i want to share a little bit of pros and cons during my time in this school.

When i was in Form one, Mr. Louis Rozario was the principal and everyone loves him because he willing to help Michaelians when they're in trouble and he also make sure everyone will participate whatever events that school going to held. He can be strict and your friend at the same time but whatever he do for school is always a good ones for us. I never get caned from Mr. Louis but i have seen he whacked my mates. To tell the truth, it looks exactly how pro tennis player whack the tennis ball. Fast isn't? When you translate that situation this, you can imagine how 'mutual feeling' you will feel after got whack.

But after Mr. Lousi Rozario left the school and Mr. Phoon become our Principal, 60 percent of students at that time are not satisfied with Mr. Phoon qualities. First of all, he is not a Michaelian and he doesn't have a good leadership like Mr. Louis has. I'm not saying Mr. Phoon is a good principal, he is good if he is not how come he got chosen to be a principal in this premier school right? But i believe there is a room for him to show his true good color to Michaelians. The new teachers in SMI is not really a 'Michaelian' type. For me, they are just like a bunch of normal teachers teaching in Tuition centre. They don't really care if you study or not and it shows that this new era of SMI is not like the good old days.

Staffs in the office are not that kind. I'm sorry to say this but it's a fact. Staffs reacts differently to teachers and parents and also students. I still remembered when a junior entered the office and ask the staff if he could use the pen and this is what the one of the staffs said; Ini bukan meja saya, saya hanya menumpang meja nie, dik. When Principal cames in, they acted differently and willing to help.

A simple help cannot be done and how are they going to help the rest of Michaelians? Staffs need to be helpful and kind to Michaelians. Don't be a boss when Principal is not around and shows that you're the 'master' in the office.

I'm not a hard-working student but i love my school. You don't need to know me because what i'm writing this is just a piece of notes for students, teachers and readers to read it. They can critize it if they want or reject this but if you want to improve the school, don't always write the good things happen in school, we need to discuss the negative side too.

I still don't understand why Form one and Form two students are compulsory to wear tie everyday while the senior only wears it on Monday for assembly. Why not wearing it everyday like Form one and Form two students. Peter Khiew did a good job than morning section Dicipline Teacher. I have no doubt about this.

Peter Khiew, if you reading this, you have my respect and please tells your mates how to be like you because i see most of them are not capable of being a dicipline teacher. So do something to improve school dicipline.

There is a lot of things happens in SMI regarding students dicipline problems but i don't want to touch on that issue because it might rip the school status. So the bosses in St. Michael's Institution, play your role and all the best."

Happy Teacher's days :)
Shout out to: Miss Foong, Cikgu Nur Atikah, Ustaz Marhalim & Miss Ling Lidi.

I agreed with 'michaelian 08' about new teachers performance. it is true but i hope those new teacher can adapt michaelian style of teachings and behing helpful towards students aswell.

Besides that, about wearing a school tie is also a problem too. When we were in morning section, we only wears it once a week just for the sake of school assembly or sometimes for special function. thats it. Why don't make it compulsory for all students to wear it including form sixers. If you wears it once a week, it shows that school tie is just for assembly and wont get caught by prefects and get warning from dicipline teacher. If KL international students can wear blazer and tie for 5 days a week, why can't we wear school tie for 5 days a week.

Talking about blazer, won't it be cool for all students to have one and not only for prefects. If everyone wears blazer in school, it shows that how special the school is. When they graduated form 5, they can give it to their brother who will be studying in St. Michael's Institution. I always wanted that since i was form one. (haha)

Student dicipline has become worse and worse year after year. From senior fight junior to vandalism has become one of the tradition in SMI. Besides that, look at Add Maths & Science Subjects grades for Form 4 & Form 5 students. How many of them failed in every test?
Probably 50-60 of them have below 30 marks for it especially for Add Maths.

Dont talk about the good students, they always score better but what about those not-so okay students? How can we help them? Dont say that the students doesnt like Add Maths, you as teacher must know how to make the subject interesting.

If a student doesnt like Add Maths or any subject and want to drop it for SPM, dont ignore them. LISTEN to their problems. Ask them why they want to drop certain subjects and take up others subjects? They are the one who will sit for exam not principal or teachers. So whats wrong about taking up other subjects?

Other than that, Morning section prefect teacher Mrs. TVN is not capable of being a prefect teacher. A lot of prefects whining and talk bad about her. She want to be a good prefect teacher, be professional not by acting like a gangster school and scold any students like satan for small problem.

Computer Lab; this will be an interesting one. During my time, students doesn't like to pay for computer fees because to the truth, you learn nothing. Maybe you will learn how to type words in MICROSOFT WORDS, make basic presentation in POWERPOINT and thats it. After you go Form three until you graduate high school, all of them will be busy watching youtube video, facebook, online games like Dota. LMAO. Looks similar to Cybecafe though don't you think?

Those who doesnt like to go computer lab because they knew they wont learn anything will lock themselves in classroom and chit-chat for one period. Computer lesson for 45 minutes? No no. It's not even 30 minutes because have to wait for teacher who taking their sweet time naik tangga for 10 MINUTES. and before that they will have 'yumcha' at canteen with other teachers.

If the school admin want to know which teachers not doing their work, why don't ask Principal check out his cctv camera which the school claimed it is recorded and be rewind for proof. OR why don't make a survey for every students and read their oppinnion how to make the school to be premier like the old days.

So far there is none. Student voices never get a chance to express their oppinion. If they do, maybe they will get caught for talking bad about school in blog. Sigh.

the school now has CCTV? Gossh...
for the principal to monitor the students and teachers?
this is breach of human rights

frankly speaking, SMI performance began to drop since 90's..when non brothers or non Michaelian... principal took over the post..however not all but few of them were good..and one of them is Mr. Balasubramaniam...

In 1992(when i was in form 1) Mr. K Balasubramaniam was the principal (he was ok)

he was an old boy of ACS..although he is not a Michaelian..he knows the meaning of being and OLD BOY..like Mr. Louis he was friendly towards the students..and during 1992-1994, lot of events took place where he participated..he even cycling from SMI to Sungai Siput to fulfill his promise where he challenged the students to make a good collection for cleanathon...sports day was also the pinnacle events in that era..

he was assisted with great teachers like Cikgu Harun, Mr. Damien Wong, Mr. See Thean Seng, Cikgu Meor, Mr. Noel D Oliveiro..these teachers wer e from the golden era of SMI in 1970's-1980's..

I still remember on one occasion after Mr. Bala left the school when I was in form 5..me and my friends were late and we hang out nearby kinta river bank...we were so afraid to enter the school compound cause we might be punished by the discipline teacher..Mr. Bala pulled over his car and went to see us and persuade us to enter the school..he said " masuk sekolah..jaga nama baik SMI..orang luar tengok nanti sekolah malu" all of us followed his advice..his short stint was so memorable ..If he was given more time in SMI, I believe he could do well for SMI..

when Teh Chor Aun took place in 1995-1998, I didnt see any results from him...it can be said that during these years SMI performance in academic and sports were dropped..because too emphasize on academic achievement sports were neglected..rugby, football, hockey, handball and other sports were failed miserably..we became pasukan belasahan..we even cant match other school..after I received my SPM results.. I met with Mr. Teh Chor Aun to get his CTC for some documents for me to enter into university ..I said to him I received offer to study law...he said to me.." ahh lawyer sekarang banyak menipu" what a words from a principal..instead of uttered such remarks he should encourage the students...

I still remember one teacher who teach maths to my 5VT1 class even left us because he got fed up with us cause majority of us failed maths..her replacement was far more better and we passed our maths with his good approach in teaching maths..of course with strict approach...

on top of that 5VT 1 was the best class among the VT's..majority of us did well in SPM...and further studies locally and abroad..
the teacher who left us then went to STAR...yes it is easier for you to teach the bright students and your CV will look great too...

well..i agreed that not all teachers deserve praises..only great teachers who turns an idiot to a better person should be respectable...

yes ...
personally I agreed with the practice of wearing tie every day..

in respect of blazer...the blazer might be expensive ..not all students can afford it..but it is a good idea...if possible..all the students or for form 5 students should wear white long pants and black shoes...

and from my opinion...the leaders from the students must be appointed from the form 5 students and not from the upper six students..instead of having the prefects, students council must be appointed. do we have such council nowadays?

a Students Council which represents form 5 leaders from all races should be appointed...they are the one should being the leaders and voice out any problems of the students...this council should be the students representatives..and they are the one who should sit together with the school administration and discuss with the teachers on how to overcome student problems and how to develop the school...this council should not be controlled by the teachers or any advisor from the teacher..

lot of thnings can be done in SMI...not just too emphasize on studies..on how many grades you want to achieve..instead of being a nerd, students must be an all rounder person who is not just good in academic but good in sports and co curricular activities...

saya sokong idea abang dzran. :)

the idea of wearing blazer and school tie for all students is a must in future (i hope).

i don't think the blazer cost will be expensive if the school order for all students which is more than thousand plus isn't it?

If all students wearing blazer, how can we identity which one is the school prefect?
Prefects - they have different tie and small round batch, so that will explain to the question.

and yes, i agree with wearing white pants and black shoes. it may looks similar like MCKK but hey, if we want to make SMI looks special then school has to make it special.

arloboy, the school already have cctv since mr. phoon became the school principal. i don't know what the uses of it because i still see a lot of students hanging around outside corridor eventhough they knew there is cctv. so why wasting money on this rubbish?

the school can save up the money and do something for facilities not only for cctv. this is not henry gurney school lah.

yesss. school blazer for all students please! yeah. i don't think it will cost more just that it takes few months for all students to get it.

tapi kalau sekolah pre-order it then no problem lah. if this idea come true, i wish i'm still a student at st. michael's institution. stylo beb pakai tie and blazer.

i think computer lesson should be out from time table. 45 minutes for computer lesson once a week is not enough. probably when you entered the computer lab, you only have around 20 minutes to use it. why? because cikgu always came late and if the cikgu kat bilik guru or canteen, he or she will take a sweet time naik tangga. betul2 wasting time! so its better to make 2 periods instead of one.

besides that, if a club or unit beruniform want to use school hall for gathering, they need to pay it. c'mon lah, sekolah sendiri pun need to pay sewa for school hall. this is too much. the school already have enough money from PIBG, School Play and sponsors so takkan lah using the school hall also one problem.

You are a Michaelian..dont call your self as Ex Michaelian or ex SMI...
u are not divorce with SMI...just like an ex husband or ex wife...:)..

wasting of money using cctv..but the school must have reason for it...

bala...
although u were no longer in school and will not have the opportunity to wear blazer, tie and white long pants...but as an old boy..u must fight the rights of the students...if we saw weaknesses or something not right happening in school, we must fight for it....nevermind kita tak dapat rasa semua tu..sebab tak ada orang yg perjuangkan hak kita sebagai students...as the discussion earlier..the students voice was never to be heard..

but we can do it for our brothers there...that is why there must be a forum of discussion between the parents, teachers and the real old boys...maybe the old boys from SMIOB can assist and if they listen to this complaint they can initiate something...

it is not enough if the old boys or old girls of SMI just having a dinner every year and laughing each other and the went back home just like there was nothing happened in SMI...or held a golf tournament for the rich guys from SMI....

once the students came out from SMI they were considered as an old boy...regardless whatever achievement they achieved...the school has always look on the successful old boys..but seems to forget those under achiever...or shall we call the "orang2 biasa"....it should not be that way...

we, michaelians should stand united regardless of your race..whether you are rich or poor..because we came from the same school...

thanks for your comments
it is good to have such an intellectual discussion here..
at least the negative side is being heard..

to those who make the comment kindly introduce yourself particularly the old boys...e mail to us who you are...and maybe we can meet outside there and have a disussion...

being a recently graduated from SMI u guys have a clear picture on what happening in SMI...our time might be different from your time...

but during our time there are some loopholes or weaknesses in SMI which need to be rectified..

if possible we can discuss and look at the possibility on what we can do...

dont be afraid to voice out your opinion...freedom of speech is guaranteed in the constitution...

this dicussion is not to point finger on certain people...but the comment is a constructive discussion and not a destructive one...

if the teachers think that they are being offended with such criticicsm they have to bear with it and try read and listen to the comments posted by the old boys..

at least they bother to highlight it and dare to speak because they love their school...it is great to have such old boys who dare to fight rather than a passive old boys who dont really care about his alma mater....

continue your discuusion here but beware of your language...have an intellectual discussion...

ever since last year when thevanei thinks she very big time already + vellu who also thinks he damn big time... our school no longer the same la... i since form 1-3 damn happy come school..

See la now.. go school everyday buat apa? main reason to go to school = get caught by thevanei, vellu, prefect. wtf?

SMI is a school or prison? pls clarify. thevanei + vellu are wardens ar? This school has changed alot.. No longer fun like last time when louis was still around.

I say , remove thevanei from what ever she thinks she is. Prefect teacher or what... ask her relax skit.. just be a normal chem teacher.

Vellu.. cannot save already la... dunno what he wants.. everyday hair hair hair hair.

I agree with the " sewa school hall " .. skolah sendiri also nak sewa.. this one really inconsiderate of the school la...

Thank god there are still nice teachers in our school. Seriously.
especially Rajan... if this school no Rajan.. gone la... lagi teruk.

Eh please la.. this one i want to ask the teachers incharge... Rambut panjang ape kne-mengene dgn discipline? We long hair den we become rebelious? we cannot concentrate on our studies? why dont the school allow long hair, but students must sikat baik2.. kan fair? takkan all wan short meh.. all look so stupid. saja " nak impress visitors... skolah yg berdisiplin "

If like tht means better rename the school.

----SMK. St.Rambut Pendek, Ipoh----

All i ask for... please... can bring back the times when i was in form 1 or form 2? those were the days la...

I'm totally agreed with the ex-michaelian thought... The school is not in the same condition since Mr.Louis left the school.. The discipline drop significantly.. Now days you can see lots of student playing truant.. Even the guard cant stop them.. This condition has never happen when Mr Louis was around here.. And The Thing About Mrs Thevanei is completely true.. She has never guide the Prefects and scold the PREFECTS when they make mistake.. WHAT is more worse is that she cant take advise from students and reject them immediately.. what kind of teacher is that?. The new teachers is somemore worse.. They dont have any teaching skills yet they teach form 3 and form 5.. HONESTLY THE WHOLE SMI SCHOOL SYSTEM NEED TO BE REVIEW BACK AND CHANGE IT FOR THE SAKE OF EVERYONE.. If not the school will doomed in a few years time with kind of condition..........

1. Football, Rugby & Basketball must have all races.

2. Blazer & white pants for all michaelians.

3. Each class must have atleast not more than 4 prefects. The more prefects in one class, none of them will learn anything. Only choose those who is hardworking not by how good their grades is.

4. Interact Club & Leo Club must be the voice of Michaelians not Prefects.

5. Instead of having fundraising through school play, more youth events need to be held like Prom Nite, Rock Band competition, Michaelian Annual Dinner & etc.

6. Change school magazine editing to and 70's and 80's school magazine type where each class photo must have one face one photo.

7. No more CCTV in school please.

8. No more another division of prefects called ' Kelab Pencegah Jenayah'. They're not PREFECTS. KPJ members only do their duties during Rotarian Debates, School Play & special function.

9. If Michaelians doesn't like dicipline teacher, change to better one.

10. Kaunseling should be a private between teacher and students but i heard alot of cases where their personal problems got leaked and all teachers knows about it. This is not a good sign. If Kaunseling teacher cannot be trust, CHANGE.

11. Dicipline teachers must listen students explaination, check how many problems he has done in the past and then only you give a whack. But i don't prefer 'rotan'. Send out letters to parents will be a good idea - more professional.

12. Computer lesson must be atleast 1 hour and use this as a fast info search for school folio or science projects not by teaching them how to type words in microsoft and do presentation about what is their favourite tv shows etc. This is totally wasted of Rm100.

13. Each club will be given a notice how much money they will get from school to do trip, gathering etc.

12. Debates between teachers & students should be organise once a year to discuss about school problems and how to solve it. Judges must be Old Boys (maybe mr. dzran can be one of them)

13. Don't ever make school play based on Disney musical movie. Brings back the classic musical like Mama mia, Dirty Dancing, Oliver Twist and many many more. If the school admin still want to use Disney movie for school play, then i'll get myself a dvd.

14. I still don't understand what is the uses of the new tangga near to office. The school got tangga near the lab so why make new one? The direction still going to the same way though.

15. If students doesn't like the current principal or that particular teacher, change it with new one and replace the old one to another school.

16. If students science subjects and add maths is not improving, meet them after school and share them abit of tips how to pass for SPM.

17. Don't ever scold students if they briding up issues like the previous comments. They just want to school to improve the standard. Michaelians is the master not the principal.

18. PIBG should listen to Michaelians voices instead of Head Prefects or School Admins.

19. Troublemakers in school must be given 3 warnings before being sacked. Kaunseling is wasting time.

20. Cut students hair on the spot after got caught is not RIGHT! The school is not a barber shop. If their hair is long, call their parents to take him back.

21. Any teacher who say something that can hurt students like making racist comments should be out from the school.

22. If that particular student doesn't want to be in science stream, don't FORCE him.

23. If that particular student want to drop certain subjects and take up other subjects. Please allow it. Minimum subjects to drop: 2 out 10.

24. Accounts need to be taught in art class again. I don't know why theY remove it 2-3 years back.

25. Clubs which is not active, need to be banned. We don't want to see non-active clubs got certificate for being member and etc.

26. 30 minutes of recess for 2 forms is not enough, in my opinion.

27. After recess assembly must not be long than 5 minutes because the weather is extremly hot don't you think?

28. Things that have been confiscated will be kept for a month and told their parents Abolish school service. I don't see the improvement of this so called school service.

29. Head Prefects, Head Libarian, Head Monitor must be voted by Michaelians not teachers.

30. Give out car stickers if the parking lot is still available. Tell them early and middle of the year. Don't just kept quiet. Parked a car at Masjid is RM3 a day. Please don't poke a hole into Michaelians wallet.

31. Owner of this blog must share a bit of his points in the next post. I'm looking forward for it.

p/s: It seems this blog has become active a place for Old Boys to express their ideas.

Keep up the good work.

I Support the above post.. i think the school should read about this blog..

the school authorities now think that the students are just... strangers.
Always hear " who are you to do this do that? your father own this school ? " bla bla bla

Ever wondered why the discipline was better when louis was still around?

Now the school got all kinds of rules and regulations.. ponteng case also announce every single day. Vandelism.. this that this that...

Ever came across the mind that, the more rules being brought up, the worst the condition?

Can the school stop being such a nuisance? The more unreasonable the school gets, they more trouble the school will get from us. definitely.

This is our school, its more like a second home to us, so dont treat us like some kind of stranger that dont belong to this school.. and that all the staff are the boss and owners of the school.

If the school so pentingkan nama baik. Listen to the students la pls.. Now also the whole of ipoh know that SMI is some shit school. 5-star konon.. toilet open 40 minutes a day for what? for us to admire?

Every time the school does something stupid to the students. Info sure leak outside.. Then nama baik for what la...

According to the above post (no.25)
Even our own principal doesnt like the scouts and band.. Why? Cause too many activities. WTF is this?

Post number 29 also.
Teachers very grand meh? only they can vote.. students do what ar then? Democratic land konon

Post no.30 :
It seems Bro. Matts ban form 5 from bringing car. why ar?

One more thing, the 2 former lady prefects working in the LS centre.. can someone pls tell them to be more polite ar? fker, former prefect also no manners. still wan work. I go apply for parking pass, first answer i get from one of them.. " why so late? " i was like wtf? my problem are i just only got a bike. First week get motor, kena edi " why so late? "

Dah la not from SMI... form 6 oni come SMI.. act big time.. 1 year+ experience wan to lanc ppl who have stayed for more than 3 years.

Tread Starter, why dont we show this to peter khiew once we've had enough comments from the michaelians?

I really think the school should see our opinion.

SMI Old Boys said...

Dear Michaelians,

Your voice and complaint are read by the teachers...especially Mr. Peter Khiew and some of the teachers..
Dont worry..they will read the comments and your message will be delivered to the school..

it is up to them to decide...
if they want to have discussion then maybe the old boys who really want the school to revamp the system can be an old boys representatives and meet with the school authority..set the date and time..

As u all can see from our activities we are promoting the Michaelian spirit even after school..

apart from our activities outside the school, we would love to come back to school and do some activities with the students..but of course subject to school approval...

we would like to give new approach and promoting TOUCH concept with the students which we believe can strengthen the bond of friendship and brotherhood among the students and the old boys...

lot of ideas we received from the old boys and pending its execution...

here u can see lot problems and ideas need to be be discussed and should be implemented...
it is a good for you guys to express your concern and dissatisfaction...at least u guys reveal the truth in what is happening in SMI...

Anonymous said...

I believe those comments apart made by the old boys are from the current students of SMI...

my brother...
If you think you were being oppressed by the school..and you think something must be done...set up a students represnteatives..especially from form 5 students...

if you think the principal should be removed or should be warned because of his lack of credibility in leading the school..and if you think the school will fall down.. and if you love your school try to brave yourself by appointing Malay Chinese and Indian student leaders to meet with the school authority to discuss the matters concern...if the school refuse to do so,and if possible get students signature and sign a petition...

all this must be done IF..I REPEAT ..IF YOU THINK THE SITUATION IS OUT OF CONTROL...IF YOU GUYS THINK the situation is still OK..THEN NO NEED TO DO SO...you guys think what is the best for you...

of course try to discuss with the teachers first...I believe they are willing to hear your voices...

I have objection...
I would love to see the reply from the school authority...
both sides must be heard...
the students have their own version...and the teachers do have too...
To those teachers who their name mention above kindly give explanation...maybe the teachers have their own reason for doing so...

I'm sure that the school wont reveal all the bad things happens. I am very sure about that because who dare telling the negative things happens in school to our old boys and parents?

To current michaelians, thank you for your comments but whatever it is we have to see the another side - school and teachers that mentioned above.

My nephew is studying at St. Michael's Institution and i asked him if there is any bad teacher in SMI and bad dicipline. The answer is yes. You won't wanna know what happen to Form two student this year. The school didn't announce the incident but majority of students in SMI knows about it.

I'm not going to tell that problems here because i prefer for the school admins itself to tell the truth.

Please dont play hide and seek, school admins. We can go to school and survey one by one each student about this matter especially students from form five.

I AGREE

in those days in 50'-60's football and rugby players were multiracial..

2. BLAZER AND WHITE LONG PANTS

3.INTERACT CLUB OR LEO CLUB..

AGREE..PLUS THE INVOLVEMENT OF PERSATUAN BAHASA MELAYU, ENGLISH. TAMIL AND CHINESE...as the MICHAELIAN VOICE....

4. NO COMMENT ON THE DRAMA.preserve the tradition but try to do a reality DRAMA..just like what the actors studio people did...not just a musical drama but a theatrical concept of stage play...more focus on the quality aspect of acting...

5.ROCK COMPETITION, PROM NITE AND MICHAELIAN ANNUAL DINNER...
Those days SMI organized family days..from morning till nite..the students were enjoyable...more motivational session or talk should be held attended by the old boys...or old boys weekend to be held...

6. TEACHERS VOTE FOR PREFECTS?
those days students can cast their vote to choose head prefects..now the rights have been abolished?

7. DEBATE BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS..? I AGREE...there must be a forum of discussion between teachers, parents, students and old boys...to discuss any issues...

10. Tukar guru disiplin, guru ketua pengawas jika mereka bertindah agresif terhadap michaelians. Jika mereka bertindak biadap seperti mengatakan sesuatu yang menyinggung perasaan michaelians, Michaelians patut merepotkan masalah ini kepada Old Boys dan biarkan Old Boys atasi masalah ini.

saya minta maaf kerana mengunakan perkataan diatas.

Jika pihak sekolah cuba mencari adik-adik kita yang membuat komen disini, saya menggapkan sekolah SMI tiada mempunya ruang untuk Michaelian bersuara.

Salam perjuangan.
Datuk Ahmad sekian sekian.

Saya amat bangga dengan penjelasan yang diberikan oleh old boys dan current boys.

Somewhere around this year. Form4-Form5 recess has become 15 minutes or so.

20 minutes already not enough for the students to line up, buy food, eat and be done with.. still need to reduce till 15 minutes.

Some of the students eat abit slow. Gone la, Thevanei will come and wack. Wack also not enough, must scold. " WHY SO SLOW? "

Why so strict... Eat also cannot meh??

Yea i also think that the Form5's should be the representatives of the school, not form 6.

The debate between the school and its students sounds good.
This should be done immediately!

" Jika sekolah tidak boleh menerima teguran and komen dilemparkan, ini bermaksud sekolah berdegil. "
Very true la.. but cannot help it.. has been like that for quite some time already. Student's in school sama taraf with peasants. Teachers all bangsawan besar.

Our opinion no longer important, sigh... what a GREAT school.

GOOD JOB, GOOD JOB. WELL DONE. Should give grammy awards to the school la... For being sooo GREAT.

If the school continue mcm ni..

No different than the Perak crisis we're currently having.

Same situation.

BN = school admins, the ones who always think they're right.

PR = students, the ones who are trying to make a change, but kena bomb by the school repeatedly. Everytime we try, kena bomb balik..

datuk ahmad...

i agree with you...
the real seniors in SMI should be the form 5 and not form 6 and SMI should not have a lady prefect..

this is totally an all boys school...we have the tradition from the primary till form 5 the students are boys...

form 6 should be treated as differently...they should considered as non school students but more to pre U students..let the form 6 govern or administer their own affairs and let the form 5 be treated as the most seniors and let them lead the school and take care their form 1 to form 4 adik2...
just like the old boys take care of them as their brothers...

if u compare with sek keb jelapang jaya or any other school or premier school..the head prefects or leaders of socities are from form 5 students...

come on la... dont give too recognition to form 6 ...they are not the majority..they should concentrate themselves with STPM...STPM is much harder...

yes form 4 & 5 should wear the white long pants with tie..the form 1-3 can still wear the green long pants ...and form 5 must wear blazer to show the seniority...

I am from the 90's batch too and i wondering why the form 6 students are recognized as seniors whereas they should not be..

I think the form 5 students are matured enough to be the leaders..
and of course the leaders must come from not just one race but from other races too...

in other boy schools, the form 5 students are being elected as head prefects, students leaders in societies, house captains and etc...

yes total revamp should be done...
and thanks for the boys and old boys who give their comments

One of my friend lost a helmet last week.

Since this year, students were required to leave their helmet at their bikes or somewhere as long as it isnt in class.

Why ? Cause helmets are being used as weapons. kononnya.

So my friend decided to make a report to Vellu, since he big time.

The conversation took only 10 seconds before Mr.Vellu left my friend for a MEETING.

" Helmet lost? neh take that one la. so simple. "

and then he points to one cheap looking helmet which belongs to someone we dont know, and walks off.

See this school.. come up with some kind of rule. And when something happens, they dont care a single bit.

Till now my friend has no replacement for the lost/stolen helmet.

Truely an amazing school. So are the admins, fantastic work.

First of all kudos to this blog owner for letting people to comment as Anonymous.

Errmm dunno what else to say..
most of my opinions have been voiced by others :)

Ermm about the grades.. ermm SOME of the MORNING session teacher(s) macam malas nk mengajar... come class chit chat, juz sit there or go explore other classrooms..

When I was form 5, (last year) which is the most important year, my add maths teacher suddenly dissapear and there is no replacement teacher for a long time.... Our replacement teacher is Mr.Velu so we finally got our add math teacher errmm at May ?
(cant realli remember)
And to cover those wasted months he taught us super fast like superman and have to skip some topics -.-

I have given up on my add maths, luckily, I din fail add maths for my SPM.. Errmm before you wan blame it on myself for not being able to study add maths on my own, read this:
"What for come to school if the teacher(s) expect us to study at tuition centres."

So we come to school juz to make frens, socialise, cre8 discipline problem, enjoy the cafeteria foods, stare the toilet ??

When I was form 4, (2 years ago) almost the same scenario, this time its about my modern math teacher. U all know mod maths is VERY DAMN EASY right ? So he decide that he don't need to teach much since its so easy and SOME of us got study at tuition centres.
He onli teach for about 5-15minutes for each lesson.

DONT LAUGH!! Almost all of my classmates failed modern math. Compare this with other school we would have been a laughing stock.

So what about those students who cant afford tuition ? These students rely on themselves since they cant rely on the teacher(s).

Well, I have been reading the comments and stuff from this page and I have to agree St.Michaels has changed a lot since Mr.Louis left.
Well, of course I cannot compare the recent principal to Mr. Louis but I have to say we do not need to know, hear or understand the stories and problems inside St.Michaels to notice.
The biggest disappointment was the cost of the roof. What the heck cost so just to dismantle the new roof and put in the new one? I have asked around among some well qualified and recognised contractors in Ipoh and they said the amount charged is like daylight robbery. It is like telling people I am selling this egg for a 1k as it is special but it is just a normal RM0.30 to RM1.00 egg found in the market. Just because of some "parties" and "people of interest" wanted a hand in it, it does not mean you have to cut the head of people to sell or renovate it? Come on, at least give a more suitbale and matching colour to the building rather than the current one. IT LOOK LIKE A MENTAL INSTITUTION, NOT A INSTITUTION OF EDUCATION!!!!
I mean, come on. Even the girls convent schools have more matching colour than our roof!!! Don't even let me get started with the design and material of the roof.
If I were to write on about it, I dun think this page would be enough!
However, behind every cloud there is a silver lining. I have to admit the security has improved even though it was a hassle to enter in unlike those older days. Furthermore, front gate of the school has a bigger and more shinning sign then before and I have noticed an area for student to wait as they are being covered by the roof built above for them. Now, I did not have that kind of facilities those days and when it rains, hell we get poured. Nowadays, it looks better.
However, as an old michaelian, I hope that St.Michaels still improves and creates more leaders like before. Yes, Mr. Louis did bring many glories and victories for our school but all good things have to come to an end. Lets hope the current principal does not put a fullstop to the word end for the school or he is gonna get one hell of a michaelian wrath from some old michaelians especially me.
Lets see hows the 100th years celebration comes coming soon. I hope he does not screw it up or he will get his assed screw from the living to the dead, if you get wat I mean.

I'm one of the old boy from the batch 2007. I did go back to school to chit-chat with some of my friend. But after one year, the school is totally different from my year. Eventhough the is improvement, there is some cons about the school admin.

1st: The school canteen look like prison to me, because of all the newly made wall and the doors. Those door look like prison door to me and the canteen seriously look like prison. They even install fences when on the way from canteen to La Salle Center and the Scout Den.

2nd: When Mr. Phoon become the principal of the school, the school surely look like prison cause of the CCTV that is being installed. Every corner of the school have one. Is the school treating the students like prisoner by installing more and more CCTV?

3rd: Some of the teacher attitude are rude toward to some student. Some of the teacher like Mr.Karu, Thevani. Like some of the old boys have said, Thevani and Vellu is like a warden in a school. Can you all imagine that a teacher will say something to prefect that,
"YOU PREFECTS ARE NOTHING!!
WE CAN BRING YOU UP AND AT THE SAME TIME, WE CAN ALSO PUT YOU DOWN!!" (probably you all know who is the teacher).

4th: I come back to school to see that some of the place in the school have been renovated to a better place, like office. Do they really need to put the window outside of the office and also installing the stairs? There is stair already nearby there, why still need to make another one?

5th: Renovation of the 6th Form toilet, why only renovate the girls toilet but not the boys toilet as well?

6th: What is the so-called world class toilet for when it is not open to every to use it? When i was studying that time, the so-called world class toilet is not open for every to use. But they open the girls toilet for the girls to use. Why we can not use it when morning last time?

When Mr. Louis is still around, the school look more like a school. Why I say like that? Cause Mr Louis will be walking around the school, collecting rubbish, when ever he spot someone out on the corridor of the class, he will ask the class who is the person that is outside.

The New principal? Haha. Some student can just walk out of the school when he was standing nearby the gate. The student can just walk out and truant. Why the new principal isn't catching anyone when they just walk out and truant? What is he doing by just standing in front of the and not catching them? By standing nearby the gate they, does it make him more people know the school better and make the reputation good? NO.

Public can hear a lot of things if the school have bad or good reputation. Public can just listen to rumours and they can just look down on the school admin.

1. White pants for form 5 students

2. Mr & Mrs who their names got mentioned, please quit as discipline teacher & prefect adviser. Go back and teach students, we don't need you anymore.

3. Appointed a Malay, Chinese and Indian for School student council.

4. Head Prefects, Head Monitor & Head Librarian must be chosen from Form 5 students.

5. Form 6 should be remained as normal students with AJK post in Club/unit-uniform.

6. Michaelians will vote which leader they want to run the school not teachers or school admins.

7. Student voices should be secret and only be told to Old boys and We will select a representative to talk with the school.

8. All activities need to be approved.

9. No more paying rent for school hall.

10. Student voices must be heard via blog, it doesn't matter if its bad or good. we as old boys need to know.

11. St. Michael's Institution crisis need to be solved as soon as possible.

12. Add Maths & Science Subjects must be taught by senior teachers or someone who is competent.

13. Get rid of School service and replace it with letters.

14. No need report card day; just send out later. Easier. If a student parents wants to talk to their teacher, organize a function just for parents.

15. Never ever changed school tie design after a long period. Always use the original design. The new design looks ugly.

16. All parking lots must be use. Give out all the stickers.

17. No more wasting money install new CCTV. Throw it away. This is not a prison school.

yo...this is a really awesome post

alrite
firstly sports

when Mr Louis was here he totally balanced out sports and studies i still remember every friday the field and basketball court wud be filled with students playing soccer and bball and we were allowed to go DIRECTLY to the principle to ask for basketball or football to play...and now wat happened since Mr.P took over, our standings in the sports department hav gone down to a level that no one wud be interested in joining competitions...and the school blames it on the students.

and our boys hav been playing basketball in the sun since it was the court was ever built and not to say tat the weather in so unforgiving rite now they cud use the money wic is used to place those "HIGH TECH CCTV" to at least build a shelter..yes not an indoor stadium but a simple shelter

next i kinda disagree wit not having a lady head because guys at times cant handle ladies problems so it is essential...but for the head prefect it shud be the 5th formers beacuse they know how the sistem works...6th formers cud get the credit certs they want by joining the clubs and societies

next to acedemics..
well when i was a 4th former wic was last 2 years my first add maths teacher was a lady and i hav no idea how she became a teacher cause there is nothing tat the whole class learned when she was teach and after a few months she left for a surgery[wic is wat told to us] we had our teacher changed 4 times and in the end came velu...his teaching methods was way abnormal and we had only a few months b4 SPM and we dint feel we got any help from him because he was neva in class and whenever he is in the class he hands out a piece of paper bombarding us wit questions...lucky i had someone to teach me add maths if not i wud hav failed my spm... this is not rite do not i repeat DO NOT put a teacher who is not capable of teaching for important subjects it really brings down a student who only relies on school teachers and not tution centers...plzla if u wan results you hav got to provide the rite fuel...for example teachers lik Pn.Sheila had everything a student wud hope to see in a teacher but after she left i dint see any teachers of her quality in our school

next up motivation
once i wanted MR.velu to sign me for my forecast results and he told me this 'wat for you gonna come back for form 6 wat' and i got really mad and i told him not to underestimate me and then he signed it...wat is a student suppose to do when a teacher is as such?? one of the teachers i respect the most for being supportive and who is abe to motivate someone is Pn.Komathi & En.Zul u can talk to them and discuss any problems you hav and they wud tell u wat to do next...this is wat we expect

next attire....
for me wearing a tie everyday is not a problem and it shud hav been compulsory for everyone to wear it everyday...blazers are fine too[i wud prefer a white one =p]they make us look smarter and more educated if you wan us too look disciplined then allow us the rite attire..

finally functions...
why can 6th formers can have a 6th form nite while the 5th formers who hav been serving the school for more than a few years cud neva hav one???...this is really unexceptable and its unfair or make some thing lik a michaelian nite or something where both the forms cud join and hav some fun before they leave the school...

there is so much more tat cud be improvised but wit the capabilities of MR PHOON i don think he wud realize and make some change until someone really makes a major move...

1a4,2a4,3a4,4sc3,5sc3
yoges
i don wanna hide my identity cuz i really care about our school and i am not afraid to do anything to bring a positive change...i really hope the school ppl wud read this post...thanks

Mr. Velu name has been brought up many time among current boys and old boys.

He need to be out from this school. No more excuses.
I agreed with Mr. Yoges post.
Besides Mr. Velu, Mrs Thevani also the partner in crime.

I'm sorry to say but both of you have shows how bad teachers you really are!

Thank god, with this blog atleast i know something happens in school. Shame on you!

What kind of Michaelian teachers are you?

I wish brothers were the school principal just like it used to be.

When i was a student back in 80's, the school dicipline were superb. It was absolutely strict but the dicipline teacher always be kind to all michaelians.

They never acted like a big shot and tells the students just like bos & coolie conversation.

I absolutely agree with most of the points given out by our boys. I have no doubt of it. I went to school one day last year because one of my family member who is now studying in that pretigious school.

I have seen dicipline teachers, moderators & prefect teacher behaviour towards our boys.

I have heard they said something like this;

You think this school belong to your father?

Who is your father? That's why the son also behaving like this.

If you doesn't want to study, i don't care. I got my salary every month.

When im talking to you, look at my face! (grab student shirt)

Why you didn't pay your school fees? Your father and mother don't like you to go to school issit?

There is more but i think that is good enough. I was shocked when form 6 moderator grabbed our boys shirt and act so agresif. I'm not sure if you know him but his name is Mr. Karu.

Yes, Mr. Karu.

Everyone knows that boys can be rebel. All teenagers have that attitude including myself.

Forget about dicipline problems for awhile. Lets talk about student grades.

Add Maths results form 4 and form 5 from 2007 til now is not improving.

We have few more years to go before our 100th Anniversary. So please, change the school system like it used to be.

I'm strongly disagree of using CCTV in school. This is not a prison school. This is St. Michael's Institution.

Projects that have been wasted a lot of money;
1. CCTV.
2. The new stairs located at the office.
3. Canteen doors and walls which looks like Prison cell.

Projects should be done in future;
1. Make a proper roof for basketball court.

2. Improve the condition at Pavillion. It looks so dirty and the television never switched on. So what is the purpose of putting 2 televisions at there?

3. A proper classroom for Pendidikan Moral. Classroom that we have now cant support 2 classes. I don't think they are able to learn.

4. New toilet have to be open all the time 5 days a week. Don't just open it during recess time.

5. Old toilet have to be renovate. The condition is totally bad and dirty especially when you entered the one of the booth.

6. Last and not least, School blazer for all Michealians & White pants for Form 5.

I do hope the School blazer project can be done before 2012.

I agreed about white pants for form 5 students & get rid of form 6 prefects and fighting for big post in school. This is totally unacceptable.

CCTV, new stairs, new canteen prison looked like gate and new look of the office really waste a lot of money.

They should use the money to help the poor students regardless of race.

Not giving out car stickers because michaelians get their P license late is not a good excuse.

I agreed with everyone too about the blazer. If the school needs money for this, we oldboys will sponsor some money for it.

Talking about sponsor, we need support for the rugby jersey. The design looks awesome. But first, attract more student various of race to join the team.

I want to see Rugby school team just like the good old days huh?

Happy teachers day to all teachers year 1996 coz them i was able to have my pride nowdays :D

After viewed all your post above i hope that moderator of this blog can make a new link for bad and good comment about our school. So it easy for others member to find this channel.
I can see there a lot of Michaelians want to express their dissatisfaction and also share their story.

This is my point of view about our school environment nowadays.
Our education system nowadays focus more on deliverable where each of school need to be no. 1 in every aspect. Then we can see so many measurement for example KPI and merit not just for student, teachers and principals but also for a school. As I can see all of this can make the condition become stress and unhealthy teaching environment. There no space for teacher and student reveals their inovatif, creativity and integrity coz all of this need some fail or loose experience to come back to be strong and matured. Compare previous days on 70’s, 80’ and 90’ almost all of student and teachers have their freedom and undercontrol coz they don’t have any pressure from the system. So what ever happens nowdays we need to have proper channel for discussion. So at least we can have minimum issues in our school.
For me I don’t have so many problems at school but I enjoy it coz I spend most of my time there even in the weekend I still can access my classroom for study activities. It all because I have a good teacher and friends around me even though there are not perfect. So enjoy your days in school and make that place as your 2nd home.

the rugby project is still going on...

the SMIOB is trying its best effort to help the rugby team...
and if the project is successful we can help other sports like badminton, hockey, football, basketball and others..
if possible it is not just sports..other areas we can look into..
i noticed someone complaint about the principal does not like scouts and band..
scouts 02 kinta and band are SMI pride..if it is true as what the boys claimed...why on earth he does not like...
we are trying to help the school...
we give the boys some pride..moral build up..the school should not be only for academic purpose...we must let the students enjoy when they are in school...

I heard somewhere last year, the basketball team coach went to see the PIBG and Admins to request for a sheltered court..

From what we heard, it seems the roof is " bad fung shui " blocking the view of wisma taiko or something.

And for this reason, i find it really funny. " fung shui "
Admins.. we're not an all-chinese school la.. u think everyone believe fung shui meh?

So in conclusion the school promoting the boys to play under hot sun la? I see.

Got money for staircase at the office, got prison bars around canteen, got CCTV to spy on ppl. got money for new gate, got money for so many new things. ALL THE UNNECESSARY , the school can afford. Why not do something worthwhile with that money?

i Agree with Yoges.

At least there are still teachers we can talk to.. Pn. Komathi, En. Zul, Mr. Rajan.. and many more.

In my opinion, Mr. Velu and Thevanei should really resign or move somewhere else. Both of them are terribly rude. Teachers konon.
Most unsupportive teachers.

If there ever was a pilihan raya to remove these 2 teachers. I think majority 95% will vote them away.

*Sleeping in class, lol?*
Why? Busy whole night thinking of ideas how to torture the students?

Welcome to the basketball court, here u can see our prisoners playing under the hot sun. Dont worry, skin cancer doesnt exist.

End of tour. Please visit our prison again whenever possible. Thank You.

Yes. Form 5 graduation day is one of the worse school agendas. You see, I'm an old boy batch 2008 and our graduation day were held on the same day of Hari koko.

There is no activities in the school hall except few teacher and Principal giving speeches and then, straight for lunch.

This is not even a proper graduation day. If the school want to organise something big for school seniors, they should atleast ask us what do you want to this year.

We can include performances and few others stuffs including games. Every students want their graduation day to be remembered but this few years, i dont see the quality of making this such of event.

If the money is the main problem, include a graduation money payment into our school fees. Everyone is willing to pay for it. Who doesn't?

And please, school hall if not a place for graduation. Even Sixth formers make their whatever call nite at hotel. They did their part so why cant Form 5 student done it too?

We, students might not voice up our view and opinion because we sure the school wont allowed it.

The first reason could be; SPM is near so pay more attention.

If thats the problem, then we do our graduation around September or around October.

But my days in school already past but i wish to see our boys enjoy their life at SMI til the last day of SPM.

before that, i was a form 6 student at 2008, i was very ok that time, but cause of the form moderator MR. KARU, i very fedup towards him . i was walking with my classmates to enter the classroom, then he just called me up to meet him after school. Then i asked him why. then he just tell me that he will slap me if i ask him again. What the hell is this . then i just sign out from SMI. WE ALL CAME TO STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT BECOME YOUR DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later i move in to canteen. It just look like prison and we all look like prisoners taking meal inside the prison. WE MICHAELIAN BECOME PRISONERS OF ST.MICHAEL ( COPY FROM A NOVEL PRISONERS OF ZENDA).

I can see today my juniors more matured and sensitive with issue around compare to my era which angguk2 geleng2 je what ever teachers said and do. however there also complaint on teacher for not performed their duty and lucky that teacher was informed n then everything back to normal. not sure how they solve it. at least that teacher hear that complaint.

Moderator please bring this thing up to all our fellow x-SMI maybe they can give some oppinion

When you talk about principal...
I remember a story told by our current PIBG chairman..Mr. Joseph Michael Lee

he said that during his time the brother principal was so kind..he said..the brother principal will help the students in study...

during 70's the students will come back to school after lunch hour..for the purpose of group study..those days no tuition centre ..they really rely on teachers and fellow friends..

sometime the students stay back until nite...and the brother principal opened the library until 10pm for the convenience of the students..and for those who want to stay overnite he will provide a classroom for the students to sleep...

my point is ..SMI should be governed by those who really care for the students...if the principal and those teacher concerns are not friendly with students...maybe the students should give them chance to change..however until we know the truth and hear from both sides...I reserve my comments...

seems that most of the students give their coroborative testimonial against the teachers mentioned..

is there any students or old boys who can give testimonial in supporting the teachers...in other words...on their side and rebut all the allegations...seems lot of you are against them..

for the time being we just wait and see...
we hope that this issues could be solved as soon as possible..
as we stress in our earlier comments..there must be a forum of discussion between the students, teachers,PIBG and the old boys...

Dear Michaelians,

My life was changed when I came in 1999/2000 to do my F6.
Mr Louis was a great example of a single person who impacted an entire generation and is still continuing to do so.

Every time I spoke to him, he never failed to amaze me how he recalls not only my name.. but as the years passed, he'd remember what I was doing in life with every meet up.

Today, as many still look up to
Mr Louis Rozario, I humbly stand by them to thank him. For making such a great difference in my generation.

Sir, I will not forget you mentioning the 3 principles where every Michaelian pride themselves off and "Zeal" was a word you mentioned many a time.
Thank you for showing all of us that in our strength and weaknesses,
there will always be this place called St Michaels where we can be secure to stand tall and
find hope and the courage
to try and change to be
"D" / "THE" Michaelian
all will be proud of.

To those who had addressed Mr Phoon to have not been like Mr Louis R., I think and feel that different leaders will always carry different leadership skills necessary for the season. Honestly, I had the very same unhappiness like many.. when I compared both principles.

But when I came to my senses, I realized that the reason that SMI had changed, is not only because of the difference in leadership..
but the people themselves.

The generation today is so different. Their method of communication and processing is literally based on self expression of limitless freedom - like the internet. After all, this IS the internet age.

I feel that the teachers need to first rekindle their passion to teach. Maybe a 2 day teacher's retreat OUT OF PERAK would be good. Just to unwind and to be challenged positively once again. Like the LTC for the Prefects.

As much as we all read self help books like "Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus" to improve our relationships,
I believe that the teachers can learn how to better communicate with today's generation and understand their struggles better in order to effectively address uprising issues.

But ultimately this retreat is
to get every teacher back into the same vision..
same passion..
same focus ..

Teachers, our generation needs you. You are the pillars and the very foundation of our nation.

Please do not give up on today's generation though they are so difficult because they are our future leaders. The leaders of our very own children.

I really pray that all the teachers in St Michael's will remember that the very existence of teachers is to groom and shape our leaders of Tomorrow -TODAY.

With regards to the discipline lately, yes it has been disappointing especially of late.
But teenagers rebel when there are no role models to look up to.
It is interesting to see the pattern of many who have blogged here and mentioned that although they may not have been model students, their lives were impacted because of great role models who "set the rules" not only through the
'Law of the Rotan' or scolding but living it out firmly in their everyday life.

We, as Asians should know this best. The older ones will always have to set the example FIRST
Tough.. definitely.. but I believe if the teachers can start to see that their lives mean so much to these young lives.. then I believe trying to change first
should be doable.

[to be continued on the next post]

** on account of this, I think that the teacher's attendance in class should be taken seriously.

Not based on the child's feedback.. but the grandparent who wanted to be sure he wasn't lying went to school all day on a Friday.. and only 2 teachers came in to teach ONE period each.

This is one of the reasons why the students I have encountered do not want to go to school... and those who cannot afford tuition add to the increase in the failing percentage.
So teacher's attendance should be checked.. either by the monitor or the prefects in the class.

** With regards to someone mentioning about the roof and its cost...
We can only be grateful that Mr Phoon and all the teachers and Bro Matt did an awesome job with their persistance in raising the funds.
The government didn't even give a single cent to the very school who has raised so many leaders of this nation.
And because of the new roofing, the students are safe.

** I think the school blazer for every student is a waste of money because we do not experience autumn or winter.. basically meaning to say, it is already too hot without a blazer.
Furthermore,
new blazer = new rules =p

Well I believe in finding as answer if there is a problem.. so here are my suggestions =)

If the school is gamed for it, we could encourage creativity in designing a school shirt or new song for the year. A simple prize like a $200 gift voucher to good brands for food /clothing will inspire positive creativity =)

And, this shirts can be also sold as the drama shirts .. thus not needing to experience having not sold off the drama T's and experiencing wastage.

** Having a "Movie Hour" for each class [once a year - using the English class lessons]
by showing really good inspiring movies or interviews of old boys is good to motivate positive expressions of self.

** I remember Mr Louis always giving praise to ANY student who brings glory to SMI in any area.. he'd call him BY NAME right to the stage.. and we'd cheer [inspite of the assembly being longer than usual].
I feel this tradition can be kept.

** Computer Lab issues
- the suggestion to teach Microsoft Office to the students is awesome!!
This will equip them for the working force. And even if the student fails in all subjects, he can easily be of use to the society because of this education.

- If the school is willing to invest, I think teaching them basic animation or movie making [movie maker] is good.
Teachers can harness this ability and give them projects with regards to their studies to do. This should inspire them to produce a better presentation WHILE learning.
If the presentation is really "cekap" then the teacher can also use it as a teaching tool.

** CCTV
- I guess the reasons for this is for security. It is not easy to monitor the safety of the school during the day.. AND night.
So lets just hope that this will stop "emotionally challenged" people from trying to destroy any SMI property during the day or night.

I think I have written just too much =p

But with this
I'd love to end by thanking
Bro Matthew Bay, Bro Vincent,
Bro Ultan Paul and the other brothers who sacrificed their entire life by uprooting themselves from their country to come to this little town of Ipoh believing that their lives CAN make a difference and change a nation.

I stand proudly as a Michaelian..

"ONCE A MICHAELIAN,
ALWAYS A MICHAELIAN"

Thank you SMIOB for setting up this place where people can share their experiences with SMI freely.

Lets work TOGETHER.. to BUILD
St Michael's Institution that we can proudly celebrate our 100th year knowing we have made history together!! =)

Geez sheer, you only a michaelian during 1999/2000 for form 6. You don't know anything about the current news.
Most of your points based on your life in St. Michael's Institution during that time. I do agree some of it like
how Mr. Phoon did a amazing job on the roof. It does looks awesome and nice. Thats it.

Regarding the CCTV issue, i don't think what the purpose of it. If you telling us that it is for security and similar to that. You are totally wrong.
How does the CCTV works at night? If you ever pass by St. Michael's Institution at night, don't you see 1st and 2nd floor blocks lights are off.
Tell me, how does it works when the only person who will watching it only the principal. School guard can't acess to it. Besides that, CCTV is not cheap.
One CCTV already cost and if i'm not mistaken there is more than 5 CCTV in the school. How much do you think it will cost including the installing.
Not cheap right? If its broken, the school have to replace it. Why waste money with this thing?

What is the uses of School prefects if they can't help the school jaga sekolah?

Computer lessons, during my years in SMI - we only learn 2 things. Microsoft words and Powerpoint. Let me say it loud and clear MICROSOFT WORDS & POWERPOINT.
We don't actually learn the WHOLE Microsoft Office software. Tell me, how does this 2 things works for the society? They don't even have certificate to show they're fully
competen of it. Do you think we like spending our computer lesson typing essays for 45 minutes? Listen to me, we spend 100 bucks every year for it and it is not worth a single cent.

Blazer, its up to the school to decide but i agree with the white pants.

Teachers like Mr. Karu, Mr. Vellu & Mrs Thevani should be given one more chance. I know how they behave in school; its like the school is run by their family and they can say and do whatever they want.
I agree with that. Mr. Karu is a good teacher but his attitude is insane. Mr. Vellu & Mrs Thevani really sarcastic and out of their minds sometimes.
Even head prefects and his gang this quit prefect because of her few months ago.
If you don't believe me, try find a boy from batch 2009 (prefect) and ask him.

Did you see Happy Teachers Day post shown at Peter Khiew's blog where Principal, Mr. Vellu sat on the statue at Parlour. When i was form 1, Mr. Peter Khiew scolded me because i sat on the statue. But now, what did you see?
Principal and Mr. Vellu sat on it and Mr. Peter Khiew is happy with it. He doesn't look angry about that. That shows how HYPOCRITE the school admins is. They try to be an example for students but at the back, they just do whatever they want.
I don't think Brother Vincent like to see that if he knew about it.

So many comments, I feel like adding my 2 cents.

I too joined in F6 for a brief 2yr stay in SMI. But believe me, I experienced more schooling in that 2 years than my entire life before.

Now, after 10 years leaving the school, I can say with great fondness that my SMI days were some of the best in my life. If you don't treasure the days of your youth, you will regret it for the rest of your lives.

Don't take it for granted that the 'school' is supposed to provide you with great education. YOU have to grab every single chance you can. The biggest difference is there are far more opportunities in SMI than any other school I've been to.

Don't forget also the fairness and equality that our beloved school embraces. Today, go to any SMK ABC and you will see that the colour divide is greater than ever. It feels like a school like SMI is one of last bastions of fairness.

You talk about the decline in teaching in SMI, I'm sure you haven't seen what it is like outside. My wife is a teacher and she'll tell you now that plain secondary schooling in Malaysia is nothing more than a monkey circus. I'm sure SMI holds a far higher standard than that. SMI still has teachers that CARE. As students, YOU NEED TO CARE for them as well.

I feel pity for all you 19yr olds feeling dissatisfied, without having taken a walk outside the great walls of SMI. Don't criticize if you don't have a proper benchmark to compare. Treat your teachers with reverent respect, regardless of whether you think they deserve it, because this is the only way you will receive respect in return. Stop being childish and stomp your out of your best years in life!

Today, if you can't get a good education in SMI, I fear you will get none at all elsewhere.

Always remember this:
It's not what the 'school' can do for you, it's what you can do for the school.

Long Live SMI. Quis Ut Deus.

With love and regards,
From a whole generation of SMI siblings.

You guys can can me uncle, because I belong to SMI's heydays in the 80s'.

Reading this blog whiz me back to those years but today SMI is no different. The boys are still full of opinions and refused to be sidelined in the matters of school admins. Well, keep it up.

Back in the good ol days, teachers were the maxims that made SMI great. Nowadays, I have reservation. Last year, I popped over to SMI trying to enroll my son. I got hold of a youngish teacher but the man was obviously "come to work get my pay" type, couldn't answer most of my inquiries. I must say, products of Maktab Perguruan lately are going downhill. But maybe I picked on a bad apple in the basket.

OK, now, on the more serious side.

Look guys, you are in an all-boys school. The teachers gotta be insane to want to work with you guys ... it's a zoo, so to speak. So, do them a favour, you have to excuse them and give them a lot of room to let off steam.

OK, there may be some bad apples (we have them too in the 80s'), continue to speak out against them ... but please be polite in your words. Students have an avenue (read: this blog) to complain but teachers do not have the same privilege. If teachers have it their way, surely their comments would easily jam the internet broadband.

In my time, ROTAN was our discipline teacher. Our parents sign off our death note as soon as we step into SMI. On occasions when over-used rotans broke off, a hefty smack on the back was the alternative. Cubit perut was quite popular too. But of course they can't do it these days because students want "rights", which is not a bad thing. On the flip side, teachers are slowly loosing the "fear factor" to control boys. As someone who takes a monthly salary, wouldn't you let things be and not bother about boys ruin themselves?

If all boys behave themselves, do you think teachers want to waste time being the bad punisher. Hey, everyone knows discipline teacher the worst job in school. In the 80s', boys would leave a long key scratch or dent on their cars. It's a hormone-charged BOYS school you know.

I would like to reminiscent the good ol days and tell you how good things were then, but that's gibberish in the 21st century. Things changes, students changed and SMI has to change will time.

In the 80s', students were scared stiff of teachers, and so teachers have the upper hand and pride to make sure everyone do well in studies and sports. Fast forward 2000s', students are not scared of teachers and teachers say "oh well, you do whatever you want".

When this happens, the quality of SMI drops and this blog gets a lot of attention.

SMI is never perfect, not now not in the past. It's like the real world out there. You will have to work with bad bosses and colleagues, people who yank you around and laugh over your miserable life. I bet when you're out working, you wish you're back in SMI.

The most important issue here is YOU. Work with the flow and use your little ways to improve the school. That at least is the best you can contribute and leave a legacy to future Michaelians.

Casey.

I believe this issue has been around quite long time ago since the current principal took over Mr. Louis place in 2005..

in any forum or discussion in friendster, myspace or any groups which belongs to smi students..
the main critics is the principal...

just compare with other schools in Ipoh...not to go across the nation...

I believe most of the students agree that SMI is no longer like those days...academic and sports achievement had been declined since 90's..

the comments made by the students in respect of their study are something to be looked into...if there are weaknesses in terms of the teachers attitude then the PRINCIPAL instead of monitoring and look at his CCTV must take further action...

in terms of sports..where is our position in hockey nowadays? those days we were among the power house in Perak..now we cant even compete with non premier school..
rugby..? yes we have some improvement compare to 90's..the current rugger boys are good but we are second compare with mckk, king edward, star, anderson and others...

in other words, SMI sports achievement is not up to expectation...other schools always look down on us...

something must be done before 100 years of celebration...we have 3 more years and by that time the school admins must make the school better than the current situation

yes we can reminiscing all the fond memories since SMI establishment by looking at the old pictures and artifacts placed in a gallery...but the reality is SMI need to change...

and this matter should not be blamed to the students alone..but all parties must work together...

(PART 1)
Well, with a heavy heart i say that St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh isa losing its glory. The Star of SMI which was brightly shining & was leading the way is slowly losing its brightness. Many factors have caused this, the administrator ad teachers.

Once upon a time, no one dare to walk around the school simply or teachers not teaching in the class because the 'Walking Legend of SMI' was always walking around the school to make sure that everything was well, but now his successor, no where to be seen.

The World Class Toilet which was build by Mr. Louis, was rated 5-Star and was made the benchmark for all the toilets in Malaysia by the Ministry. Every students money had donated in one way or another. The sad thing is that, it is no more maintained to the 5-Star standart by the present administrators. It was so clean and fresh smelling but now.....Water supply is sometimes closed or slow flow. Are they trying to save water by neglecting the cleanliness and hygienic of students? Just try to visit it, you will know what i mean. The old toilets doesn't have door for each cubicles. I just wonder what was their attention in removing the doors.

Anonymous said...

(PART 2)
The simple-simple tradition is also fading away. Students are not credited for their achievements(small or big is still a achievement right). During Mr. Louis time, any achievement by the students, whether is big or small, will be credited by the principle by calling them to the stage during morning assembly and praised. They are given a hero welcome if their achievement is big. This make them to do better and also as a motivation to themselves and others. not a single event is missed out. Every event is announced during assembly and students are told to go to the venue to show support. But now, no more credits and more saddest part is, sometimes students don't even know that there is a competition. Any competition now, we can rarely see supporters as the students don't know and sometimes the supporters are their friends or team mates.

Some teachers are not as they were during Mr. Louis time but some are still holding to the principles of Mr. Loius. Bravo to them. Some new teachers are not dedicated to their job. Some just don't teach well. When we go to the administrator to complain, we are turned down and instead scolded. During Mr. Loius time, every teacher are in the class during their lessons and they teach with full of dedication as the 'BOSS' is always monitoring. Mr. Louis also will always give attention to any problems and hears from the both parties. A positive solution for the students and teachers is always found. But now..... emm...

Students are now not allowed to speak for their rites, voice to our opinions and defend ourselves. We are either told that we are disrespectful, rebellious and etc. Majority of the students now don't enjoy coming to school. Just think and see....

School was used to be our second home during Mr. louis. The door is always open for us. Every Saturday, the field was full of students playing soccer and much more and the Ipoh Folk always wonder whats going on as Saturdays looks like a schooling days. Sometimes they ask whether any carnival going on.... There we always sound of students everywhere. Students will always be going in and out of school during weekend and school holidays. The school had its life. Every Friday students will borrow football, basketball and other after school from the Mr. Louis to play. He keeps them in his office. We just need to write our name, class and IC Number to borrow it. He was very approachable. Every Friday also, the school field is packed after school. Gone are the days. Students are now sometimes barred from coming to school during holidays and weekends to play. What kind of students do the present administrator want to form? Do they want to form 'soft guy'??? A big shame & disappointment!!! SMI also stands for Strong Man School but now do the administrator want to give a new title, Soft Man School???? Disgrace to the whole Lasallians an Michealians!!!

Coming to school nowdays, are not enjoyable as it used to be during the reign of one of the most best and finest Principle of St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh had ever had, that is Mr.Louis Rozario A/L Anthony Doss A.M.P. His daily morning speech was so encouraging, nurturing and enjoyable. Sorry to say that Mr. Phoon doesn't have it at ALL!!!

I have much more to discuss, but due to time constrain, I would like to stop here but I will write soon. Forgive me if I had say anything harsh which have hurt anyone in one way or another. The truth always hurts. We need to voice out and also listen to others so that we can improve ourselves.

Till then, 'Green and White Unite'-one of the famous quotes of Mr. Louis.

For me, 'When Green and White Unites, Legend Are Born'...

About a speech given out When Mr Phoon give speech also like a dead men like that. Why i say so? Because when he give speech, no movement, is like a living statue talking around the assembly. When I was still schooling that time, whenever I hear his speech, I feel wanted to stand and sleep on the spot where I was standing cause the speech he give is VERY BORING, and not like what Mr Louis, when Mr Louis giving out speech, like what some other people have said, his speech was good for us and yet encouraging. If the school admin doesn't want to care bout this blog post or comment and still wan to go on with what they do, I do think that soon there is gonna have riot in SMI. And yet, last time, when one of my club president ask about doing camp is school, Mr Phoon is like we are giving him a hard time whenever we ask him to sign something or request for camp at school. Are we sure that is what we wanted when 100th Year Anniversary, riot? School name has gone bad? Or anything like that? I'm sure we doesn't want that right? Why not, we print out this page, and take it to the school and see what they have to say. If they just chase us out, come. I not even scare of them, i think i will take this to higher organization then the school and tell that organization that they are some current boys and the old boys are not even happy about what happen to the school. If they really were to kick me out, i will possibly think that i will send an email to some people in ministry of education bout it. REMARKS MY WORD, school admin. i'm not joking, cause all of us seeing is seeing that there is no improvement at all in the school except of wasting the money on building something that is not so useful like CCTV for lazy people A** to move around to check on the student or walk around the school, or making the canteen like a prison canteen. It's not much different from what we see in Prison Break show. I think now, in the school, even the discipline is good, what is the use of it? I even heard that, the current principal even take the money that the debate team win and after few month only give them, the principal just give them bout 5% to 10% of the winning prize to each of the debater. WHAT IS THIS?? If some of u say that the prize money should be giving a bit to the school, why did the principal after few month only give them the prize money? Sure he makan duit adi la. some more what you wan to say. If the school admin wanted the school to get better, they already take up the students idea and what they wanted to say, like, why not make a big shelter at the basketball court, even i'm a chinese guy, feng shui sometime can be trust, but by not putting the shelter, is like inviting the student to get skin cancer. Last time, i even hear that the school wanted to do a car park bout two or one storey high from the ground, what happen to the thing that is being said to us? Why not promising us the thing that the school have promise? Sometime, the current school admin don't know what to do what is best for the student to study in a better environment.

(Part 1)

Derek @ Ricky said...

Part 2

Environment is one of the main thing in studying, not bout development or the school or renovate some part of the school. Sometime when i go back to my alma mater, the school look like prison to me. Cause of the some of the development that is being made. Old roof sometime does suit the school? Because the old roof is one of the historic item that we had in SMI. We should be using it back, but instead, by putting the new roof, the student at the top floor, will be warm cause of the new roof. Does some of us think that the new stair is a waste of resources cause some people is being so lazy to walk on big round to go to the office? Does the fence near the canteen is for security purpose, the fence that is heading La Salle Center. And the wall that is being build at the canteen heading the new primary school building, is it necessary? Did Bro Matthew renovate the Form6 Boys toilet? That toilet need renovate as well. And why did they just only renovate the girl toilet? When i was Form 1 that time, the television at the Pavilion was usable, but now, it becoming a nest for some bug or even bird already.

Why I say some of these harsh word, cause i can not stand seeing that our alma mater is going down and losing its name as one of the best school in perak last time. Sorry to the blog owner for using such harsh word. But all i wanted to say is true.

Bring in the gorilla pricipal who is always thinking feng shui is always the concern like a gorilla who can't accept anything but defeat or change of rules in his kingdom like king kong.
Add in with the idiotic and group of admin clowns who do not give a damn bout the school but only their paychecks and "MUST HAVE RELAXED" environment
and
WE HAVE THE ROYAL MICHAELIAN CIRCUS.
Now, we just need audiences, some ticket stands and some security.
Wait! Our canteen looks like a caged up place for a circus, well done by authorities for it. Now, we just need cameras and we have CCTV's.
To make it more perfect, we are just missing out the animals but we already have the gorillas and monkeys and maybe we need some lions and tigers.
Oh,yeah the school security should do.Now, it is perfect.
THE CIRCUS AND SHOW MUST GO ON!!!!
And this how our school is today, a circus full of fools taking over it and making it look like a circus.
Even is the admin reads this, well they know they getting their asses kicked so buck up or get kicked out.
Do not waste the time of other people who really want to study and put the name of our school on the map. You aint doing anything to make happen if the admin is acting like a bunch of clowns!!!!

and yo rick,if ever the admin is reading any of these comments, they would be next to a box of tissues or next to a letter of resignation.
If they do not have both of these, they are bloody thicked skinned till they do not even know that they are bloody bleeding when ever they hurt themselves.
Worse than looking at Van Helsing's Vampire Brides when they change form don't you think?
Wait, Thevani reminds me of that!
GROSS!!!!!

Old Boys out there! The present students need your help. We can't voice out because we may become the victim or targeted person in the school as we are still schooling and they can do what ever they want using the rules. We need you to come to the school and meet the board of administrator to voice out of behalf of our dissatisfaction. Think about it. Please take a step before the school falls fully.

Actually Mr. Phoon and the administrator under him did good things to the school but Mr. Louis administration "Plus Point' was more than Mr. Phoon administration. Im NOT saying that Mr. Louis and his administrations was perfect, but the good things he did out numbered the bad things. While Mr. Phoon and his administration did good things but some of his policies had not given positive results but a negative results instead. We the students who receive much impacts directly and indirectly. An appeal from the Michaelians, The Presents Administrator Of St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh, PLEASE CHANGE.... Many of us are crying silently seeing the present condition of OUR GREAT ALMA MATER...

How can we contact the SMI Old Boys? Any details...

contact us at

by the way i suggest the current students in SMI especially the Form Fivers can email to SMIOB...maybe there are some matters that cant be revealed here..which need to be told secretly...why cant you share the infos with all old boys here? hmm.

Anonymous said...

well my brother, not everything can be shared here...there are some matters which are not suitable to be discussed here..

we must remember if things getting worse..i mean more students come here and express their unhappiness and reveal all the things happens in school which we cant ascertain of its truth..

yes they are being heard and the matters are now within the knowledge of the old boys and the teachers as well..

but it does not mean the students are prohibited to give their opinions...they are most welcome here...they are free to do so..after all it is their grouses..

we must protect the blog owner too..
the blog owner gives room or platform for us to voice out our opinion and dissatisfaction...

for example there is statement of misuse of money by the principal...how we can prove it? do we have the proof? this accusation until it is proven truth I dont think it should be revealed here...

but for statements such as their unhappiness towards the learning environment or their teachers as well as if they have ideas on how to overcome the problems and to make the school better than the current situation it can be said here...

but on the more complicated or sensitive issues it is better for the students to e mail to the blog owner...

it is up to you my fellow brothers...u decide which one should be commented here or which should be told privately...

to the boys, we know how you feel rite now..it just like a brother complaint to his brother...

dont worry...yo'll never walk alone...hehehe

I agree with mostly everything..Things are getting out off hand these days...especially Thevani...man she's a pain in the ass...for god sake don't treat us like children..by pulling our shirts to move to another spot..We are teenagers...can't you just speak to us properly..like a adult would..Mrs.Thevani should change her attidude or else all the students won't respect her..even some of the prefect wants to resign..because they just can't take it..
Even now..in the morning assembly,we got to line up like babies by putting our hand infront of us..who you think we are..kids...we are like 15-19 years old...Man!!Its an emmbarresment to the school..
Futhermore..do you all know Mr.Phoon is freaking stingy..example if you ask him for sponsorship to go to KL..which is around RM100...and actually we ask him for least cause we paid another RM200 our selves for the competition which is being held there..and we are also representing the school..
Finally after we won..then only he agrees to sponsor us..what knid of person is that...(IS OUR SCHOOL REALLY POOR!!!)
I think Mr.Phoon is not suitable for the role of principle in our school..
Now about teachers...some teachers just rush to complete the syllabus..without knowing wheather the students understand a single thing..wat kind of teacher would do that...and yeah teachers should also learn to talk fluently in both Bahasa Melayu and English...For me I'm getting annoyed with one of my teachers..when she talk its like she's praying or making you go to sleep..and her English is one of the best I heard so far *SARCASTIC*...its so bad even the birds flying outside will drop dead...Anyway our school should take notice of this board..

i agree with you aloboy.

we need to protect the blog owner as well. without him, there will be this long ass 80 comments in this section. thanks for him for giving us the chance to speak and express our feelings. kudos to the blog owner. :)

SMI perlu ada satu perubahan
bertujuan menjaga hati pelajar agar pelajar SMI suka datang ke sekolah
benda yang perlu diubah

1.tiada prefects berdiri di laluan berbumbung pagi2..for what purpose? macam masuk prison sahaja..mood pelajar boleh spoil pagi2 tgh muka prefects.

2.undang2 tak boleh bawa botol air ke sekolah dihapuskan...prefects rampas air for what? mau minum? if cannot bring chewing gum to school is logic but mineral water bottle? huh....orang pagi2 isi pastu kena rampas, mengarut.

3.tidak perlu terlalu tegas dgn rambut, asalkan ia disikat kemas dan rapi dan menepati style yang betul walaupun panjang sedikit. pemotongan rambut selepas amaran melanggar hak pelajar.

4.erm tandas 5 star perlu dibuka sepanjang masa. tandas lama macam puki, bau busuk, pintu takde. at least upgrade sikit supaya layak digelar sebagai tandas bkn neraka. tukang pencuci tandas perlu jimat air, global warming, dia terlalu aggresive dlm cuci, habis suar aku basah..agak2 la nak cuci pun relax la sikit....

buktinya "cikgu karu suruh kami lalu ikut tangga lain supaya tak buat gangguan dekat pertandingan puisi dan lagu, then prefects ni halang dia cakap "form 5 should not supposed to go this way" ek eleh...cikgu yang suruh lagi dia tak percaya bajet bagus. prefects must learn how to respect students. wa respek lu lu respek gua.

8.banyak sgt prefects dlm school ni, macam dalam citer prison break pulak

9.prefects form 6 jangan berlagak, mereka bertugas hanya nak kan "nama dan pangkat".

Fivers...

I read a comment about your graduation day/nite or dinner...

u know what..during my year which in 1996 there was no such graduation day...no makan2 or minum2 to celebrate us..
at least u guys are lucky enough to have such day...

I didnt know on how your graduation day/nite was held last year..but i saw pictures of fivers graduation day in 2007 through your magazine..
it looks like an evening session(form 1-2) assembly. No wonder there was a complaint about it...

MY SUGGESTION:
1. to organize such event in a hotel it is quite expensive...nevermind use the school hall...(try to get it free of charge)
Fivers, u set up your own comittee members to organize such event...plan on how the graduation day should be...

2. try to make it on saturday....your graduation day can be held on saturday nite...

3. Fivers..your form 5 is your last year in SMI for most of u,the year after u are no longer so called boys..but u will become an old boys...so maybe you would like to meet with your old boys...invite the old boys to celebrate your graduation day...

4.If you guys do it on saturday, the old boys can come to school for your graduation day...

in the morning we can have a game between fivers and the old boys..football and futsal game, rugby, badminton, basketball and tarik tali...

the old boys can come to school and also bring their wives and kids...and bring along their girlfriend too:)...

u know what lot of old boys would love to come back to their alma mater and play a game once again in the field...

SMIOB can do their part in promoting and informing the old boys out there...
could u imagine how sweet such event...a game between the old boys and the boys...let us start it as a tradition..make it as a precedent...

5.Meanwhile, while other FIVERS playing games with the old boys in the morning, the comittee members and other fivers can make preparation at school hall for your graduation dinner at nite...arrange some events and performances...
make it as grammy award nite...

shuffle performance, rock band performance, karaoke as well as award giving ceremony...
for example...the most weird student...the best dress of the nite...and any unique awards...and of course a slot for old boys to make performance...( the old boys also have a rock band too)

I guarantee you guys...it will be the memorable day which you will never ever forget and it will strengthen your bond of brotherhood and friendship forever....

I want Muhd Dzran idea to come true before we celebrate our 100 years anniversary.

ohh man, graduation day with current and old boys gonna be the best event ever. one big family.

SMI Old Boys said...

no need to wait for 100 years...
this year also can be held...
try to make it before SPM examination...at least the old boys can give advice and motivate the boys to do well and not to be nervous when sitting for the SPM exams...

normally the old boys balik kampung early of the month...baru dapat gaji...

the old boys acrros the nation can come to school....

the old boys are now connecting with each other through internet networking...through blogs, facebook, myspace and others...

after all Ipoh is the old boys hometown...

I was in SMI from 1980 (SMI 2) to 1987 5Sc3 and judging from what I've read so far, it is a very disappointing place to be at. The glory of SMI has been taken away from it. I've had the pleasure of becoming a Michaelian and am still a Michaelian and to see my beloved alma mater become what it is today is a crying shame. Why? The answer seems to be rather obvious, the people managing the school. I had a lot of memories in SMI. I didn't study much back in 86 and 87 but (my own doing) one thing for sure, I would never let anyone say anything bad about the school. The sense of pride of belonging to such an institution supercedes any other pride. This was also elevated by the fact that I was in the rugby team back then. Choo Ah Chye was my coach. I was with Interact, Adams, Scouts (24th Troop back then) and photography club too. That together with rugby and later came the karate class (short stint). With all that, how can I not be proud of my school? Could not wait to represent the school at any given time. Now, that doesn't seem to be the case. It is just an institution. I find that the school has a lot to offer, only if it changes its attitude. It should not be known as a school famous for being a training ground for hooligans. How did this happen? The students are a product of where they come from. Simple as that. If they come from a school that is treating them like hooligans, they will be one. That is the main thing here. We must remember that the school is the only place that the students go to for knowledge... academic knowledge that is but if the environment surrounding them does not reflect that, then, one question arises... "Why am I here?" I have had an opportunity to be able to make a comparison between a local school and a school in the UK. I was lucky enough to be "exported" to a school in Northern Ireland to re-do my learning curve. The difference between these two... lesser students and different hours (9.00am to 3.30pm). The teachers care about the students performance and prefer not to blemish their record with students failing their subjects. Here in Malaysia, it is just a job for most teachers. It is a case of "Why should I bend backwards for these clowns if they don't want to learn?" Have they been made to understand the importance of why they are at the school? What measures have been taken to ensure that they understand the value of education? Something to think about isn't it?

I would to remind to those who make a comment in this "hot topic" ..

If you dont like the teachers concerned, limit yourself with an argumentative intellectual complaint..supported by facts and evidence..dont insult them with such a terrible remarks...

Happy Teacher's Day 2009 is totally bullshit.

7.25am until 9am. That's it. After that continue studying like usual.

Where is the games between teachers and students?

Performance and etc.

What the hell is wrong with the school now?

Lazy or Busy? geeez.

I miss the old days man 2-3 years back.

School admins, you totally sucks.

Peter khiew, if you reading this. Don't just keep quiet. SAY SOMETHING!

Anonymous said...

Aku nak tanya School Admins, Peter Khiew, OMA and PIBG.

Kenapa tukar nama tingkatan 1 dan 2 ke nama-nama yang mengimejkan sekolah rendah? Guna balik 1A1 / 2A1 etc.

Anonymous said...

I have been told that the celebration of teachers day must be end before 10am..surat pekeliling from PPD instruct to do so...after the celebration then continue with class...

no activities with the students?
no tug of war( tarik tali) or badminton, basketball or futsal match between students and teachers...??? or any performance to appreciate the teacher???
was there a performance from the form 5 students??

i saw teachers day pictures from one of the teacher's blog and what transpired from the pictures, it was like a normal assembly...teachers were given umbrella...:)

by the way...

1.why the school change the badge from yellow DACING to white? the new one looks dull..and not matching...the old one looks better...who makes the decision?

2. why the form 1 & form 2 classes name change to different name? who makes the decision? make a poll or ask the old boys outside there first before any changes made...the school should not too much emphasize on these petty things such as change the class name to kindergarten's name...COURAGE..PATIENCE....
A1-A10..was a tradition name...why opt to change? dont let the juniors confuse...it is so sad when something important and a heritage like the class name they just simply change...

so..we want the old badge and change the form 1 & form 2 classes to old names...IMMEDIATELY!!!

Anonymous said...

haha immediately?!?! i don't think that is possible...this post have been here for a nearly a month and still we have no action or feedback from the school admins...im really disappointed...=7

Anonymous said...

nevermind give them time...maybe they are too busy with their work...exams or anything...
give them one month...
but the more the school admins keep quiet the more they show their weaknesses....we all need explanation

hopefully SMIOB can do something...
by the way who are the persons behind SMIOB...?

hope they can introduce themselves...
what happening in school now within the knowledge of old boys...
for school admins info...almost 2,000 over Michaelians (mostly working old boys) aware of the problems....I know about the problems from facebook...finally they know the truth about the bad things happened in school..
SMIOB has done a great job..

no words from peter khiew and the school admins
i read his blog...but only writing about good stories...never tell us the other side especially the weaknesses in SMI...

Anonymous said...

every year giving umbrella, umbrella, umbrella to our teachers by the school admins.

why don't give a nice cup with Happy Teacher's Day wording or something like that.

SMI Old Boys said...

we will reveal the people behind SMIOB soon..

anyway we will think what to do next...
there must be an effort to rectify the problem...
maybe there should be a program which can unite the teachers and the students as well as the old boys...

instead of bashing the teachers and finger pointing on each other..we can work together in peace and harmony with a FAMILY environment...
