Petikan kata-kata semangat yang dipetik di dalam FB SMIOB Rugby Club untuk tatapan semua agar sama-sama kita berdoa untuk kejayaan team rugby SMIOB ini.

Mohd Dzran - Tahniah kpd semua yg terpilih untuk main Sabtu ni...termasuk 3 import...pasukan akan bertolak dengan 3 kereta..dari SMI dan kemudian melalui tol ipoh selatan..keluar ikut highway guthrie dan menuju ke Shah Alam...dan akan menginap di UiTM Shah Alam untuk 2 hari..kejohanan akan bermula 8.30 pagi hari Sabtu dan berakhir petang Ahad...

Terima kasih kepada bekas-bekas pelajar yang sudi menaja kos-kos penginapan, pengangkutan, yuran, makanan dan minuman. Sumbangan ikhlas anda amat berharga kerana semangat sekolah itu yang kita mahu. Walaupun ada yang tak pernah main ragbi dan dah gemuk tak boleh main ragbi tapi sudi membantu. Bak kata pepatah berat sama dipikul ringan sama dijinjing. Sikit-sikit lama-lama jadi bukit. Bersatu teguh bercerai roboh. Senior kena tolong junior baru boleh NGAM dan COOL. Nama-nama anda akan diberi penghargaan selepas kejohanan nanti.

Kepada pemain,korang main dgn penuh semangat.Kalau kalah pun biar kalah melawan. Kalau menang biar bawak balik cup. Kalau masa sekolah tak dapat pergi main luar Perak sebab sekolah kita takde bas dan juga sebab kekangan bajet, inilah peluangnya main kat Padang Utara. Dan inilah apa yang SMIOB buat, bukan hanya cakap kosong semata-mata.

Kalau orang kata "Awak penah jejak Padang Utara?" Dan bila bagi jawapan "Ya". Orang yg tanya soalan tu akan cemburu dengan anda..kerana dia tahu anda HEBAT!!

Old Boy, Old Girl, Old Michaelian, Ex Michaelian or Michaelian Only?

If you studied in all male school, would you prefer to be called as an old boy? Or you might want to refer yourself as an Old Michaelian? What is your preference?

Our school official alumni prefer to use the term OLD MICHAELIAN. That is why they came out with the idea of OLD MICHAELIAN ASSOCIATION.

However, there are some arguments saying that the word Michaelian must stand as a Michaelian instead of old or young Michaelian. For example, there is a quote saying ONCE A SCOUT ALWAYS A SCOUT. There is no such thing as old scout or young scout (correct me if i'm wrong). And worse some even define the term of an ex student as an ex-Michaelian. Is there any separation just like a matrimonial separation ( ex-wife, ex husband, ex-staff and etc) between us and the school where we have to call ourselves as an EX MICHAELIAN?

How about on the issue when there are female students in all male school particularly in form 6? Can we call themselves an old boy when their gender is female. Some says we follow the majority. This is all male school and the word old boy refers to old girl too.

There is some confusion here. What term shall we used? Or shall we stick with the term Michaelian only? You have the answer.

It's Time For Us To Help Each Other

The SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club will compete in Karnival Ragbi 10's Ansara(Alumni MRSM) on 28 & 29th January 2012 at Padang Utara Petaling Jaya.

The competition will feature 16 old boys team all over Malaysia and the club was honored for being invited by the organizer.

Most of the players are from Ipoh and it will be costly for them to travel from Ipoh to KL. To ease the financial burden of the players, the SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club invites old boys who are willing to contribute and sponsor the team.

The Club has introduced a simple plan sponsorship. What you need to do is to just sponsor RM30 and this amount will be used to sponsor each player. For the competition there will be 15 players.

Peranan Alumni? Untuk Ahli atau Untuk Sekolah?

Alumni seperti yang kita maklum adalah merujuk kepada satu kumpulan yang terdiri daripada ahli-ahli yang bersatu di atas satu perjuangan atau satu matlamat. Alumni sering dikaitkan dengan bekas pelajar sekolah, kolej atau universiti.

Setiap jenis cabang alumni adalah berbeza. Di universiti ada yang lebih suka ber "Alumni" dengan rakan satu kursus malah ada yang gemar mengikut asal dan kenegerian. Di sekolah pula, trend alumni lebih kepada mengikut batch.

Kebanyakan sekolah di Malaysia ini sudah mempunyai alumninya sendiri terutamanya sekolah-sekolah yang telah lama bertapak. Antara sekolah yang telah mempunyai alumninya sendiri adalah MCKK, Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Victoria Institution, St. John's Institution dan termasuk juga sekolah kita, iaitu St. Michael's Institution. Setiap alumni ini mempunyai matlamat dan perjuangannya sendiri. Ada yang pada peringkat awal penubuhannya hanya berobjektifkan untuk kebajikan ahli-ahli. Selain mengeratkan silatulrahim antara sesama rakan-rakan sekolah, kebajikan setiap ahli juga dipantau. Setelah mereka menguatkan alumni mereka dengan kekuatan ahli dan aktiviti-aktiviti untuk ahli barulah mereka mula berbakti kepada sekolah terutamanya untuk keperluan pelajar. Malah ada juga alumni yang memberikan bantuan sokongan seperti kewangan dan kepakaran yang ada pada setiap ahli di dalam alumni.

Ada sesetengah pendapat berkata apabila bekas pelajar menjadi ahli kepada sesuatu alumni, membayar yuran tahunan dan menjadi ahli sesuatu persatuan alumni, bukankah apa yang dibayar perlu berbaloi dengan penyertaannya di dalam persatuan tersebut. Ini bermakna alumni hanya perlu fokus kepada ahli dan bukannya hanya sekolah. Ini kerana tugas menaikkan nama sekolah atau memperbaiki kekurangan yang ada pada sekolah adalah tanggungjawab sekolah dan PIBG bukannya alumni. Namun demikian ada pula berpendapat sebagai bekas pelajar, peranan alumni adalah membantu menaikkan nama sekolah.

Oleh yang demikian, adakah anda lebih suka kepada alumni yang berbakti kepada ahli-ahlinya sahaja atau yang hanya untuk sekolah sahaja atau kedua-duanya sekali. Sekiranya kedua-duanya sekali yang manakah perlu diutamakan, ahli atau sekolah?

Larian Seabad Michaelian 1912-2012/Larian Merentas Desa 2012

The curtain raiser for the 100 years celebration of our school has just started. On 14th of January 2012, the school organized it's annual event, larian merentas desa( cross country). However, it was quite different this year when a special event for the old boys was held.

The old boys were invited to run in the event called Larian Seabad Michaelian 19-12-2012. Medals were offered from 1st -10th place. This event was welcomed by the old boys and many turned out for the event.

Mr. Shaun Pereira from the batch of 1996 was in second place and a rugby player for the SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club, Mr. Mohd Fauzi (2007) was among the top ten runner.

Congratulations to the school and the organizer especially to Mr. Helmi Mohd Isa for the success in organizing such a wonderful event. More events coming up for this year, the year where we celebrate the centennial of our school.

We are back. U guys might wondering why this blog has not been updated for such a long time. We are still around but in different way of communication. We are more active in FACEBOOK. SMIOB has it's own group in facebook and several sub groups such as SMIOB DUGONG RUGBY CLUB and SMIOB GREEN WARRIORS FOOTBALL CLUB.

Since our last post we did collaboration between other MICHAELIAN Groups such as BATCH 84, Rancangan Khas and GAPIS.

Majlis Berbuka Puasa di SMI

Pada 20/8/2010 satu Majlis berbuka puasa diadakan di St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh. Majlis ini dianjurkan oleh ALUMNI RANCANGAN KHAS (RK) SMI dan juga pihak sekolah. Majlis ini dihadiri oleh old boys beragama Islam dari zaman 70an sehingga 00an, guru-guru, bekas guru dan juga pelajar-pelajar Tingkatan 3-5.

Majlis bermula pukul 6 petang dan bertempat di dewan SMI dimulai dengan bacaan Tahlil. Apabila tiba waktu berbuka puasa semua hadirin dan hadirat menjamu selera di kantin sekolah.

Program ini kemudiannya diteruskan dengan solat berjamaah Maghrib, Isyak dan kemudiannya Solat Tarawih yang diketuai oleh Imam Khairuddin Malik yang juga merupakan bekas pelajar SMI yang kini berkhidmat sebagai Imam di Masjid Puchong, Selangor.

Selain daripada itu sesi tazkirah atau ceramah motivasi juga diadakan dan telah disampaikan oleh bekas pelajar SMI dari tahun 1974-1979 iaitu Dr. Kamaludin Karmain yang merupakan seorang doktor perubatan yang mempunyai klinik beliau sendiri di Manjung. Ceramah beliau berkisar topik tanggungjawab sebagai seorang pelajar dan cara mencapai kecemerlangan dalam pelajaran.

Majlis berakhir lebih kurang pukul 10.00 malam. Program ini berjaya dalam menyatukan old boys dan present boys serta merapatkan hubungan antara yang muda dan tua. Diharap para pelajar mendapat manfaat daripada program ini dan seterusnya berusaha untuk menjadi seorang Muslim yang soleh dan mencapai kecemerlangan dalam kehidupan.

SMIOB would like to congratulate the winners. Kudos to the players who fought bravely in this test tournament. An experiment tournament before the official tournament which is being planned to be held next year.

The award of fame, glamor and glory goes to LA SALLE team, the unexpected team which the players consist mostly "kuda tua" players and the most less number of players in the team, plus a 1 Malaysia team.

The tournament went smoothly and the level of competition was high whereas after two games all teams collected 3 points each and the winner as well as league position can only be decided after final game.The final which was scheduled had to be cancelled due to running out of time.

Thanks to the committee members from SMIOB, the players, Sunway Extreme Park Tambun and the supporters who spent their long weekend with us. 1 Malaysia and One Michaelian.

SMIOB Dugong

Ladies and Gentleman. We would like to introduce to you the SMIOB Dugong. Our own old boys rugby team. Look at them!! They still fit and have the energy to play the animal game for a gentleman.

On 24th and 25th July they had created a history by becoming the first old boys team from SMI involved in Rugby 7 aside Liga Alumni 2010. They were in same group with the defending champion, KYSER Unicorn (Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka Alumni), HSKOBA (High School Klang Old Boys Association) and ANSARA (Alumni MRSM) Kuala Terengganu.

With no training, our team had given a fight against the much established teams. In first game the team lost 7-14 to KYSER and against HSKOBA we were defeated 7-17. In our last game, we were the favourite to win the game but our team failed to lift the expectation whereby we lost 14-19 to ANSARA Kuala Terengganu. The Champion for this tournament is HSKOBA when they defeated KYSER.

The event was held at Padang UTARA Seksyen 52 Petaling Jaya, a centre for the rugby community in Klang Valley. For some of Michaelians, this was the first time they had stood on the field and played rugby here.

SMIOB Dugong will come back again next year and with much proper training we believe our team will do much better. Apart from 7 aside, we will also looking forward for 10's and 15's tournament anywhere in Malaysia.

A Successful Weekend

Syukur dengan limpah kurniaNYA, SMI OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 telah berjaya dilaksanakan dan telah mendapat sambutan yang menggalakkan. Seramai lebih 100 orang OLD BOYS yang hadir bagi memeriahkan acara tahunan ini yang dianjurkan oleh SMIOB dengan kerjasama pihak sekolah.

Upacara perasmian telah disempurnakan oleh Yang Berbahagia Dato Vincent Corkery dengan kehadiran tetamu-tetamu kehormat seperti Penolong Kanan Kokurikulum En. Kamaruzzaman, bekas guru merangkap bekas penyelia petang SMI (bersara 1994), Cikgu Harun dan bekas pemain ragbi SMI, En. Zolfa Bin Zin (batch 1984). Perasmian juga diserikan lagi dengan perarakan masuk ke padang oleh pemain-pemain dari kedua-dua pasukan dan persembahan bertenaga oleh Michaelian Military Band.

Program dimulakan dengan permainan Ragbi di antara SMI dan SMIOB. Pasukan SMI berjersi baru lengkap yang ditaja oleh pihak sekolah dan old boys kelihatan begitu segak namun gagal menewaskan pasukan SMIOB dan kedua-dua pasukan terikat dengan kedudukan 15-15. Pasukan SMIOB dibarisi oleh pemain-pemain terbaik yang pernah dilahirkan oleh SMI dari generasi Cikgu Choo Ah Chye sehinggalah ke generasi Cikgu Adi Yusri dan Cikgu Helmi Md Isa. Cikgu Choo Ah Chye juga hadir untuk memberi sokongan.

Perlawanan bolasepak di antara pasukan SMI dan SMIOB memihak kepada SMIOB apabila pasukan muda sekolah tewas 4-3. Pasukan SMIOB kelihatan amat goyah pada awal permainan apabila ketinggalan 0-2, namun pengalaman memisahkan kedua-dua pasukan dan ternyata pasukan bolasepak SMIOB pulang dengan kejayaan.

Bagi acara badminton, kedudukan terikat seri 2-2 setelah penganjur membatalkan perlawanan terakhir memandangkan kedua2 pasukan kekurangan pemain.

Kesemua perlawanan telah disaksikan dengan penuh minat oleh Dato Vincent Corkery yang sanggup turun ke gelanggang dan meluangkan masa untuk bersama dengan Michaelian.

Acara terakhir, tarik tali merupakan acara kemuncak yang ditunggu-tunggu oleh semua peserta dan sekali lagi SMIOB berjaya mengalahkan pasukan SMI.

Ternyata acara ini telah berjaya mencapai matlamatnya iaitu untuk merapatkan hubungan di antara pelajar dan bekas pelajar di dalam satu suasana kekeluargaan yang meriah. Keputusan permainan bukan perkara utama tetapi semangat bersatu tanpa mengira umur, status, bangsa dan agama selaras dengan semangat seorang Michaelian.

Jawatankuasa Penganjur SMI OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 mengucapkan jutaan terima kasih kepada semua yang menjayakannya termasuk barisan ahli jawatankuasa penganjur dari SMIOB dan SMI yang bertungkus lumus siang dan malam untuk menjayakan program ini dan SMIOB juga berharap program ini akan menjadi acara tahunan dan tradisi yang ditunggu-tunggu oleh semua warga Michaelian.

ROAD TO OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010

A week before the OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010. A moment which will be cherished by the Michaelian who will leave everything on that day to spend the day with their alma mater.

A game of friendship and brotherhood between the past and current students. In preparation for the OBW 2010, the SMIOB rugby and football team held a training at SMI on 19th June 2010 to make themselves familiar with the game venue.The training starts at 5pm and end at 7pm.It is also an opportunity for the Organizing Committee of OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 to check the venue and make a preparation.

The last training and final rehearsal will be held at the same time and venue on 25th June 2010, a day before OBW 2010.

This program/event is organized by a group of students who called themselves as SMIOB (St. Michael’s Institution Ipoh Old Boys). Since it’s inception in 2008, lot of activities were held such as futsal, badminton, blood donation and old boys’ gatherings. We have our own website; http://smioldboys.blogspot.com and our e mail is smi_oldboys@yahoo.com. Our members are mostly from those who are active in using internet and we use to communicate through online. Our motto is THROUGH SPORTS AND CULTURE WE UNITE.

An OLD BOYS WEEKEND is a give back to school program. A charity based program in which the old boys especially the sportsman who had contributed to the SMI sports achievement in those days come back to school and playing games with the current students. This is the second year of the program after unprecedented last year’s program. We received well response from those who were unable to attend the first program last year and they had pledge to come to school for this year OLD BOYS WEEKEND.

For this year event, the old boys who attend the event are required to pay registration fee of RM10.00 as a contribution to sponsor the cost of the event and payable upon registration.

OBJECTIVE

1.To organize a sports game between the old boys and students of St.Michael’s Institution,Ipoh.

2.To organize reunion gathering for the old boys, seniors and juniors from various batches.

3.To contribute in school sports development in form of charity and self motivation.

4.To strengthen the bond of brotherhood and friendship between past and current students.

5.As a homecoming annual event for the old boys all over the nation to visit their alma mater.

This event is not an SMIOB program only but a program which involves the participation of the students, teachers, parents and the school. This combination is a great collaboration and it is in line with our theme for this year’s OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010, HAND IN HAND WE STAND.

We work together hand in hand and we stand by each other, the school and the old boys to face the obstacles in front of us to achieve success in the future. And we hope with more old boys come forward to join us; SMIOB can be a registered alumni association in the future and to be an alternative for the old boys to be in alumni community and to give their best to the development of their alma mater.

The 96(A) Futsal Team was the first Champion of the inaugural SMIOB INTER-BATCH FUTSAL 2010 which was held at Sports Planet Ipoh on 1st May 2010. The second place went to 96(B) team.

Meanwhile their juniors, 97 team won the third place. The medals were presented by Mr. Zolfa Zain, a senior from the batch of 1984.

From boys to men..the Michaelians of RK in 2008. Among notable figure is Prof Dato' Abdullah Bin Mohamad Said

Siapakah mereka? Mereka adalah pelajar-pelajar Melayu yang mendapat peluang belajar di SMI dan kebanyakan daripada mereka adalah pelajar pintar dari luar bandar yang mendapat peluang bersekolah di SMI di bawah satu program yang dikenali sebagai Rancangan Khas(RK) dan program ini berterusan untuk beberapa dekad. Selain daripada asrama di SMI terdapat juga sebahagian darpada pelajar-pelajar ini tinggal di asrama di Jalan Tambun sebelum berpindah sepenuhnya ke asrama di SMI. Tidak dapat dipastikan samada pelajar-pelajar program RK atau lebih dikenali sebagai budak hostel ini masih lagi terdapat di SMI.

Namun demikian, SMIOB ingin memberikan penghargaan kepada batch pertama RK ini dan juga batch-batch 1970an yang kini telah pun menjadi lelaki bekerjaya di dalam bidang masing-masing. Suka duka mereka ketika menginap di Asrama Jalan Tambun merupakan pengalaman yang berharga yang mungkin tidak dapat dilupakan. Pengarah kampus UITM Perak yang baru-baru ini menerima darjah kebesaran dari Sultan Perak, Prof Dato' Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohamad Said merupakan salah seorang daripada pelajar hasil daripada program Rancangan Khas (RK). Semoga legasi RK di SMI akan terus dikenang.

Feedback on Old Boys Weekend

Some of you might have a doubt on the above title. What the heck is Old Boys Weekend?

For some of us, the old boys had been there. We were there last year on the historic date. The date is 1/8/2009, a day where a group of the old boys came and visit their alma mater. The visit is with a purpose. Not a simply or a common visit or sight seeing tour with reminiscing fond memories. But a visit with an objective to keep the bond of brotherhood and friendship among Michaelians, young and old. Senior and junior. The boys and the old boys.

A journey to boyhood. We came last year and 2 games were held. Football and rugby where both events played on the school field. The feedback and outcome of the event was tremendous and awesome. We received e mail from the old boys who were participated as well as those who were unable to come. They want it again. They want to play a game with their juniors. They want to be there again and once again to be with the school players. They wish to come back again.

This year we are planning to have such similar event with additional games to be held. And this event is called as OLD BOYS WEEKEND, where a weekend for the old boys from all over nations to come back to their alma mater, meeting with their school mates, teachers and students.

We need your feedback for us to arrange and to organize the event. Let us make the OLD BOYS WEEKEND a tradition. A tradition where the old boys will leave everything on that weekend and begin a journey to a boyhood to none other than ST. MICHAEL'S INSTITUTION IPOH.

We have make a poll on the right panel of this blog. Select your suitable dates. The proposal date is not finalized yet and subject to change. Apart from football and rugby, we intend to include badminton and other sports during the OLD BOYS WEEKEND. Give your suggestion and feedback. Let us work together and participate in this year OLD BOYS WEEKEND.

SMIOB would like to invite Michaelians from seniors to juniors to compete in the first futsal tournament for the old boys of St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh. A league format competition where two top teams from each group will advance to the knock out stage and stand a chance to be the first team to lifts the title.
