Petikan kata-kata semangat yang dipetik di dalam FB SMIOB Rugby Club untuk tatapan semua agar sama-sama kita berdoa untuk kejayaan team rugby SMIOB ini.

Mohd Dzran - Tahniah kpd semua yg terpilih untuk main Sabtu ni...termasuk 3 import...pasukan akan bertolak dengan 3 kereta..dari SMI dan kemudian melalui tol ipoh selatan..keluar ikut highway guthrie dan menuju ke Shah Alam...dan akan menginap di UiTM Shah Alam untuk 2 hari..kejohanan akan bermula 8.30 pagi hari Sabtu dan berakhir petang Ahad...

Terima kasih kepada bekas-bekas pelajar yang sudi menaja kos-kos penginapan, pengangkutan, yuran, makanan dan minuman. Sumbangan ikhlas anda amat berharga kerana semangat sekolah itu yang kita mahu. Walaupun ada yang tak pernah main ragbi dan dah gemuk tak boleh main ragbi tapi sudi membantu. Bak kata pepatah berat sama dipikul ringan sama dijinjing. Sikit-sikit lama-lama jadi bukit. Bersatu teguh bercerai roboh. Senior kena tolong junior baru boleh NGAM dan COOL. Nama-nama anda akan diberi penghargaan selepas kejohanan nanti.

Kepada pemain,korang main dgn penuh semangat.Kalau kalah pun biar kalah melawan. Kalau menang biar bawak balik cup. Kalau masa sekolah tak dapat pergi main luar Perak sebab sekolah kita takde bas dan juga sebab kekangan bajet, inilah peluangnya main kat Padang Utara. Dan inilah apa yang SMIOB buat, bukan hanya cakap kosong semata-mata.

Kalau orang kata "Awak penah jejak Padang Utara?" Dan bila bagi jawapan "Ya". Orang yg tanya soalan tu akan cemburu dengan anda..kerana dia tahu anda HEBAT!!

Ok. Selamat Malam. Malam ni malam Jumaat. Saya nak cari kepuasan di sebalik malam2 di Kuala Lumpur.Kepuasan yang tiada nikmatnya. Kenikmatan pekena teh tarik di kedai mamak yang cekik darah!!

Old Boy, Old Girl, Old Michaelian, Ex Michaelian or Michaelian Only?

If you studied in all male school, would you prefer to be called as an old boy? Or you might want to refer yourself as an Old Michaelian? What is your preference?

Our school official alumni prefer to use the term OLD MICHAELIAN. That is why they came out with the idea of OLD MICHAELIAN ASSOCIATION.

However, there are some arguments saying that the word Michaelian must stand as a Michaelian instead of old or young Michaelian. For example, there is a quote saying ONCE A SCOUT ALWAYS A SCOUT. There is no such thing as old scout or young scout (correct me if i'm wrong). And worse some even define the term of an ex student as an ex-Michaelian. Is there any separation just like a matrimonial separation ( ex-wife, ex husband, ex-staff and etc) between us and the school where we have to call ourselves as an EX MICHAELIAN?

How about on the issue when there are female students in all male school particularly in form 6? Can we call themselves an old boy when their gender is female. Some says we follow the majority. This is all male school and the word old boy refers to old girl too.

There is some confusion here. What term shall we used? Or shall we stick with the term Michaelian only? You have the answer.

It's Time For Us To Help Each Other

The SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club will compete in Karnival Ragbi 10's Ansara(Alumni MRSM) on 28 & 29th January 2012 at Padang Utara Petaling Jaya.

The competition will feature 16 old boys team all over Malaysia and the club was honored for being invited by the organizer.

Most of the players are from Ipoh and it will be costly for them to travel from Ipoh to KL. To ease the financial burden of the players, the SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club invites old boys who are willing to contribute and sponsor the team.

The Club has introduced a simple plan sponsorship. What you need to do is to just sponsor RM30 and this amount will be used to sponsor each player. For the competition there will be 15 players.

Peranan Alumni? Untuk Ahli atau Untuk Sekolah?

Alumni seperti yang kita maklum adalah merujuk kepada satu kumpulan yang terdiri daripada ahli-ahli yang bersatu di atas satu perjuangan atau satu matlamat. Alumni sering dikaitkan dengan bekas pelajar sekolah, kolej atau universiti.

Setiap jenis cabang alumni adalah berbeza. Di universiti ada yang lebih suka ber "Alumni" dengan rakan satu kursus malah ada yang gemar mengikut asal dan kenegerian. Di sekolah pula, trend alumni lebih kepada mengikut batch.

Kebanyakan sekolah di Malaysia ini sudah mempunyai alumninya sendiri terutamanya sekolah-sekolah yang telah lama bertapak. Antara sekolah yang telah mempunyai alumninya sendiri adalah MCKK, Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Victoria Institution, St. John's Institution dan termasuk juga sekolah kita, iaitu St. Michael's Institution. Setiap alumni ini mempunyai matlamat dan perjuangannya sendiri. Ada yang pada peringkat awal penubuhannya hanya berobjektifkan untuk kebajikan ahli-ahli. Selain mengeratkan silatulrahim antara sesama rakan-rakan sekolah, kebajikan setiap ahli juga dipantau. Setelah mereka menguatkan alumni mereka dengan kekuatan ahli dan aktiviti-aktiviti untuk ahli barulah mereka mula berbakti kepada sekolah terutamanya untuk keperluan pelajar. Malah ada juga alumni yang memberikan bantuan sokongan seperti kewangan dan kepakaran yang ada pada setiap ahli di dalam alumni.

Ada sesetengah pendapat berkata apabila bekas pelajar menjadi ahli kepada sesuatu alumni, membayar yuran tahunan dan menjadi ahli sesuatu persatuan alumni, bukankah apa yang dibayar perlu berbaloi dengan penyertaannya di dalam persatuan tersebut. Ini bermakna alumni hanya perlu fokus kepada ahli dan bukannya hanya sekolah. Ini kerana tugas menaikkan nama sekolah atau memperbaiki kekurangan yang ada pada sekolah adalah tanggungjawab sekolah dan PIBG bukannya alumni. Namun demikian ada pula berpendapat sebagai bekas pelajar, peranan alumni adalah membantu menaikkan nama sekolah.

Oleh yang demikian, adakah anda lebih suka kepada alumni yang berbakti kepada ahli-ahlinya sahaja atau yang hanya untuk sekolah sahaja atau kedua-duanya sekali. Sekiranya kedua-duanya sekali yang manakah perlu diutamakan, ahli atau sekolah?

Larian Seabad Michaelian 1912-2012/Larian Merentas Desa 2012

The curtain raiser for the 100 years celebration of our school has just started. On 14th of January 2012, the school organized it's annual event, larian merentas desa( cross country). However, it was quite different this year when a special event for the old boys was held.

The old boys were invited to run in the event called Larian Seabad Michaelian 19-12-2012. Medals were offered from 1st -10th place. This event was welcomed by the old boys and many turned out for the event.

Mr. Shaun Pereira from the batch of 1996 was in second place and a rugby player for the SMIOB Dugong Rugby Club, Mr. Mohd Fauzi (2007) was among the top ten runner.

Congratulations to the school and the organizer especially to Mr. Helmi Mohd Isa for the success in organizing such a wonderful event. More events coming up for this year, the year where we celebrate the centennial of our school.

We are back. U guys might wondering why this blog has not been updated for such a long time. We are still around but in different way of communication. We are more active in FACEBOOK. SMIOB has it's own group in facebook and several sub groups such as SMIOB DUGONG RUGBY CLUB and SMIOB GREEN WARRIORS FOOTBALL CLUB.

Since our last post we did collaboration between other MICHAELIAN Groups such as BATCH 84, Rancangan Khas and GAPIS.

Majlis Berbuka Puasa di SMI

Pada 20/8/2010 satu Majlis berbuka puasa diadakan di St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh. Majlis ini dianjurkan oleh ALUMNI RANCANGAN KHAS (RK) SMI dan juga pihak sekolah. Majlis ini dihadiri oleh old boys beragama Islam dari zaman 70an sehingga 00an, guru-guru, bekas guru dan juga pelajar-pelajar Tingkatan 3-5.

Majlis bermula pukul 6 petang dan bertempat di dewan SMI dimulai dengan bacaan Tahlil. Apabila tiba waktu berbuka puasa semua hadirin dan hadirat menjamu selera di kantin sekolah.

Program ini kemudiannya diteruskan dengan solat berjamaah Maghrib, Isyak dan kemudiannya Solat Tarawih yang diketuai oleh Imam Khairuddin Malik yang juga merupakan bekas pelajar SMI yang kini berkhidmat sebagai Imam di Masjid Puchong, Selangor.

Selain daripada itu sesi tazkirah atau ceramah motivasi juga diadakan dan telah disampaikan oleh bekas pelajar SMI dari tahun 1974-1979 iaitu Dr. Kamaludin Karmain yang merupakan seorang doktor perubatan yang mempunyai klinik beliau sendiri di Manjung. Ceramah beliau berkisar topik tanggungjawab sebagai seorang pelajar dan cara mencapai kecemerlangan dalam pelajaran.

Majlis berakhir lebih kurang pukul 10.00 malam. Program ini berjaya dalam menyatukan old boys dan present boys serta merapatkan hubungan antara yang muda dan tua. Diharap para pelajar mendapat manfaat daripada program ini dan seterusnya berusaha untuk menjadi seorang Muslim yang soleh dan mencapai kecemerlangan dalam kehidupan.

SMIOB would like to congratulate the winners. Kudos to the players who fought bravely in this test tournament. An experiment tournament before the official tournament which is being planned to be held next year.

The award of fame, glamor and glory goes to LA SALLE team, the unexpected team which the players consist mostly "kuda tua" players and the most less number of players in the team, plus a 1 Malaysia team.

The tournament went smoothly and the level of competition was high whereas after two games all teams collected 3 points each and the winner as well as league position can only be decided after final game.The final which was scheduled had to be cancelled due to running out of time.

Thanks to the committee members from SMIOB, the players, Sunway Extreme Park Tambun and the supporters who spent their long weekend with us. 1 Malaysia and One Michaelian.

SMIOB Dugong

Ladies and Gentleman. We would like to introduce to you the SMIOB Dugong. Our own old boys rugby team. Look at them!! They still fit and have the energy to play the animal game for a gentleman.

On 24th and 25th July they had created a history by becoming the first old boys team from SMI involved in Rugby 7 aside Liga Alumni 2010. They were in same group with the defending champion, KYSER Unicorn (Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka Alumni), HSKOBA (High School Klang Old Boys Association) and ANSARA (Alumni MRSM) Kuala Terengganu.

With no training, our team had given a fight against the much established teams. In first game the team lost 7-14 to KYSER and against HSKOBA we were defeated 7-17. In our last game, we were the favourite to win the game but our team failed to lift the expectation whereby we lost 14-19 to ANSARA Kuala Terengganu. The Champion for this tournament is HSKOBA when they defeated KYSER.

The event was held at Padang UTARA Seksyen 52 Petaling Jaya, a centre for the rugby community in Klang Valley. For some of Michaelians, this was the first time they had stood on the field and played rugby here.

SMIOB Dugong will come back again next year and with much proper training we believe our team will do much better. Apart from 7 aside, we will also looking forward for 10's and 15's tournament anywhere in Malaysia.

A Successful Weekend

Syukur dengan limpah kurniaNYA, SMI OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 telah berjaya dilaksanakan dan telah mendapat sambutan yang menggalakkan. Seramai lebih 100 orang OLD BOYS yang hadir bagi memeriahkan acara tahunan ini yang dianjurkan oleh SMIOB dengan kerjasama pihak sekolah.

Upacara perasmian telah disempurnakan oleh Yang Berbahagia Dato Vincent Corkery dengan kehadiran tetamu-tetamu kehormat seperti Penolong Kanan Kokurikulum En. Kamaruzzaman, bekas guru merangkap bekas penyelia petang SMI (bersara 1994), Cikgu Harun dan bekas pemain ragbi SMI, En. Zolfa Bin Zin (batch 1984). Perasmian juga diserikan lagi dengan perarakan masuk ke padang oleh pemain-pemain dari kedua-dua pasukan dan persembahan bertenaga oleh Michaelian Military Band.

Program dimulakan dengan permainan Ragbi di antara SMI dan SMIOB. Pasukan SMI berjersi baru lengkap yang ditaja oleh pihak sekolah dan old boys kelihatan begitu segak namun gagal menewaskan pasukan SMIOB dan kedua-dua pasukan terikat dengan kedudukan 15-15. Pasukan SMIOB dibarisi oleh pemain-pemain terbaik yang pernah dilahirkan oleh SMI dari generasi Cikgu Choo Ah Chye sehinggalah ke generasi Cikgu Adi Yusri dan Cikgu Helmi Md Isa. Cikgu Choo Ah Chye juga hadir untuk memberi sokongan.

Perlawanan bolasepak di antara pasukan SMI dan SMIOB memihak kepada SMIOB apabila pasukan muda sekolah tewas 4-3. Pasukan SMIOB kelihatan amat goyah pada awal permainan apabila ketinggalan 0-2, namun pengalaman memisahkan kedua-dua pasukan dan ternyata pasukan bolasepak SMIOB pulang dengan kejayaan.

Bagi acara badminton, kedudukan terikat seri 2-2 setelah penganjur membatalkan perlawanan terakhir memandangkan kedua2 pasukan kekurangan pemain.

Kesemua perlawanan telah disaksikan dengan penuh minat oleh Dato Vincent Corkery yang sanggup turun ke gelanggang dan meluangkan masa untuk bersama dengan Michaelian.

Acara terakhir, tarik tali merupakan acara kemuncak yang ditunggu-tunggu oleh semua peserta dan sekali lagi SMIOB berjaya mengalahkan pasukan SMI.

Ternyata acara ini telah berjaya mencapai matlamatnya iaitu untuk merapatkan hubungan di antara pelajar dan bekas pelajar di dalam satu suasana kekeluargaan yang meriah. Keputusan permainan bukan perkara utama tetapi semangat bersatu tanpa mengira umur, status, bangsa dan agama selaras dengan semangat seorang Michaelian.

Jawatankuasa Penganjur SMI OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 mengucapkan jutaan terima kasih kepada semua yang menjayakannya termasuk barisan ahli jawatankuasa penganjur dari SMIOB dan SMI yang bertungkus lumus siang dan malam untuk menjayakan program ini dan SMIOB juga berharap program ini akan menjadi acara tahunan dan tradisi yang ditunggu-tunggu oleh semua warga Michaelian.

ROAD TO OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010

A week before the OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010. A moment which will be cherished by the Michaelian who will leave everything on that day to spend the day with their alma mater.

A game of friendship and brotherhood between the past and current students. In preparation for the OBW 2010, the SMIOB rugby and football team held a training at SMI on 19th June 2010 to make themselves familiar with the game venue.The training starts at 5pm and end at 7pm.It is also an opportunity for the Organizing Committee of OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2010 to check the venue and make a preparation.

The last training and final rehearsal will be held at the same time and venue on 25th June 2010, a day before OBW 2010.

This program/event is organized by a group of students who called themselves as SMIOB (St. Michael’s Institution Ipoh Old Boys). Since it’s inception in 2008, lot of activities were held such as futsal, badminton, blood donation and old boys’ gatherings. We have our own website; http://smioldboys.blogspot.com and our e mail is smi_oldboys@yahoo.com. Our members are mostly from those who are active in using internet and we use to communicate through online. Our motto is THROUGH SPORTS AND CULTURE WE UNITE.

An OLD BOYS WEEKEND is a give back to school program. A charity based program in which the old boys especially the sportsman who had contributed to the SMI sports achievement in those days come back to school and playing games with the current students. This is the second year of the program after unprecedented last year’s program. We received well response from those who were unable to attend the first program last year and they had pledge to come to school for this year OLD BOYS WEEKEND.

For this year event, the old boys who attend the event are required to pay registration fee of RM10.00 as a contribution to sponsor the cost of the event and payable upon registration.

OBJECTIVE

1.To organize a sports game between the old boys and students of St.Michael’s Institution,Ipoh.

2.To organize reunion gathering for the old boys, seniors and juniors from various batches.

3.To contribute in school sports development in form of charity and self motivation.

4.To strengthen the bond of brotherhood and friendship between past and current students.

5.As a homecoming annual event for the old boys all over the nation to visit their alma mater.

And we hope with more old boys come forward to join us; SMIOB can be a registered alumni association in the future and to be an alternative for the old boys to be in alumni community and to give their best to the development of their alma mater.

Siapakah mereka? Mereka adalah pelajar-pelajar Melayu yang mendapat peluang belajar di SMI dan kebanyakan daripada mereka adalah pelajar pintar dari luar bandar yang mendapat peluang bersekolah di SMI di bawah satu program yang dikenali sebagai Rancangan Khas(RK) dan program ini berterusan untuk beberapa dekad. Selain daripada asrama di SMI terdapat juga sebahagian darpada pelajar-pelajar ini tinggal di asrama di Jalan Tambun sebelum berpindah sepenuhnya ke asrama di SMI. Tidak dapat dipastikan samada pelajar-pelajar program RK atau lebih dikenali sebagai budak hostel ini masih lagi terdapat di SMI.

Namun demikian, SMIOB ingin memberikan penghargaan kepada batch pertama RK ini dan juga batch-batch 1970an yang kini telah pun menjadi lelaki bekerjaya di dalam bidang masing-masing. Suka duka mereka ketika menginap di Asrama Jalan Tambun merupakan pengalaman yang berharga yang mungkin tidak dapat dilupakan. Pengarah kampus UITM Perak yang baru-baru ini menerima darjah kebesaran dari Sultan Perak, Prof Dato' Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohamad Said merupakan salah seorang daripada pelajar hasil daripada program Rancangan Khas (RK). Semoga legasi RK di SMI akan terus dikenang.

Feedback on Old Boys Weekend

Some of you might have a doubt on the above title. What the heck is Old Boys Weekend?

For some of us, the old boys had been there. We were there last year on the historic date. The date is 1/8/2009, a day where a group of the old boys came and visit their alma mater. The visit is with a purpose. Not a simply or a common visit or sight seeing tour with reminiscing fond memories. But a visit with an objective to keep the bond of brotherhood and friendship among Michaelians, young and old. Senior and junior. The boys and the old boys.

A journey to boyhood. We came last year and 2 games were held. Football and rugby where both events played on the school field. The feedback and outcome of the event was tremendous and awesome. We received e mail from the old boys who were participated as well as those who were unable to come. They want it again. They want to play a game with their juniors. They want to be there again and once again to be with the school players. They wish to come back again.

This year we are planning to have such similar event with additional games to be held. And this event is called as OLD BOYS WEEKEND, where a weekend for the old boys from all over nations to come back to their alma mater, meeting with their school mates, teachers and students.

We need your feedback for us to arrange and to organize the event. Let us make the OLD BOYS WEEKEND a tradition. A tradition where the old boys will leave everything on that weekend and begin a journey to a boyhood to none other than ST. MICHAEL'S INSTITUTION IPOH.

We have make a poll on the right panel of this blog. Select your suitable dates. The proposal date is not finalized yet and subject to change. Apart from football and rugby, we intend to include badminton and other sports during the OLD BOYS WEEKEND. Give your suggestion and feedback. THERE have been many brickbats thrown at the selection of the country's first 20 high performance schools (HPS).

Some have questioned why top names such as Penang Free School, St Michael's Institution (Ipoh), Victoria Institution (Kuala Lumpur) or SMK St Joseph (Kuching) were left out of the list. (pic: Victoria Institution)

Many people have commented that identifying and labelling high performance schools would lead to elitism, while others have said that there should be a level playing field for all schools.

Education deputy director-general (General Education Operations) Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim wants to set the record straight.

"There has been a lot of cynicism and a negative backlash and the public may be seeing these schools as a single entity.

"These schools earned that position. They went the extra mile and showed their potential," she explains.

Citing an example, she says SK Zainab (2) in Kota Baru used its own initiative to work with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) while SMK (P) St George's co-operative is a great success.

Besides that, there was a stringent application process which schools had to meet in order to obtain the HPS status.

As a result, some of these schools had earlier been given cluster school status and an allocation of RM500,000 to further quantum leap themselves.

"Gaining the HPS designation is similar to the apex university concept as they are awarded to Malaysia's best schools," she adds.

HPS are defined as schools with ethos, character and a unique identity which enable the schools to excel in all aspects of education.

Noor Rezan reiterates that these schools are not elitist.

"We hope that the public will look at it as a whole education national key result areas (NKRA) package," she adds.

The ministry, she adds, had conducted focus groups with the relevant stakeholders including school heads, unions, subject matter experts and the public, who were supportive of the HPS concept.

The rationale behind why high performance schools were chosen as a sub-NKRA are to elevate the quality of the best schools, produce excellent students and raise the bar for other schools in the system.

"Elevating the quality of the best schools means raising the quality of the best performing education institutions through increasing the level of autonomies, such as allowing them to innovate how the school is run.

"At the same time, in producing excellent students who move on to the best institutions of higher learning, and graduate into 'towering personalities' in all fields of work," explains Noor Rezan who is the Education national key result areas (NKRA) lab leader.

It is also to raise the bar for other schools in the system through coaching and networking between institutions.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced the list of the 20 HPS in January. Of the 20 schools named, 10 were fully residential, four secondary and six primary.

Another 30 schools would be named next year, and 50 by 2012, making it 100 in total.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said there would be financial incentives for schools, school leaders, teachers and non-academic staff; a greater range of options for human capital development; and allowance for high-achieving students to advance faster through the education system.

Noor Rezan explains that there is a stringent application process and schools have to prove they are worthy of the selection.

"The Inspectorate of Schools vets all the applications so if a school has given itself a high score under the Malaysian Educational Quality Standards (SKPM), it has to prove that this really is the case," she says.

To be considered for HPS status, primary schools have to meet three out of the five annex criteria required and four out of five for secondary schools.

These annex criteria are excellent academic achievement which is a composite score of the School Average Score (GPS) and a verified SKPM score; towering personalities; national and international awards; linkages with institutions of higher learning; strong network, and nationally and internationally benchmarked.

SK Bukit Damansara headmistress Zarina Jamil says the school has managed to achieve a consistent score of above 90% in the SKPM for the last three years.

"Our pupils have constantly performed well in the UPSR and been placed first in various categories in the state such as the highest number of passes and obtaining all A's," she says.

As for towering personalities, Noor Rezan explains that this means the school has a track record of developing influential and successful individuals while for newer schools, there is a clear aspiration to nurture leaders.

Although the school is about 37 years old, SMK (P) Sri Aman principal Alainal Hasani Md Noor says it has produced many successful students including the first female pilot for Air Asia.

"We try to be environmentally friendly and have two solar panels that generate enough energy for two air-conditioners, and our students turn leftover fruit into enzymes for fertiliser," she adds.

Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah principal Mohamad Kamaludin Taib says the school's old boys from its Alumni Sekolah Alam Shah (Asas) work closely with the school.

"They volunteer their time at school by giving the students motivational and career talks and also hand out monetary rewards," he adds.

On the negative feedback that it was unfair that some of the HPS are residential schools, Mohamad Kamaludin says residential schools have to work as hard as other institutions since there is a lot of competition.

"We can't afford to be complacent," he shares.

For SMK (P) St George principal Shariffah Afifah Syed Abbas, it was not making RM107,000 in profits from running the school co-operative which is important, but the invaluable training the students are receiving in return.

Besides focusing on the traditional co-op bookshop, the school has branched out into running a cafeteria, cybercafe and even growing chillies. There's also a co-op branch selling stationery at the residential hall which caters to around 200 students.

"Not all of our students can volunteer at the co-op bookshop so we built a cafeteria.

"It is managed like a Starbucks outlet and sells food such as muffins, pizzas and yoghurt and is solely operated by the students under the guidance of the teachers," she adds.

Shariffah Afifah says the chilli fertigation programme cost RM10,000 to put in place and will take the school some time to recover the cost.

"But as I told my teachers look at what the students are getting in return as in addition to their books, they are learning about insects and fertilisers.

"Many young people are often reluctant to become entrepreneurs but I hope that with the training and experiences my students are getting here, they can grab such opportunities in the future," she adds.

SK Zainab (2) headmistress Aida Mohd Salleh feels the school's success is due to the pupils' parents who volunteer as assistant teachers.

"Sometimes they get involved in a project or help prepare teaching aids. They also help the children particularly those in Year One to manage themselves," she says.

The school, she adds, also works with USM on a mind enhancement programme.

Helping others

Noor Rezan says HPS will need to play a role in ensuring there is broader impact in the Malaysian education system.

"They need to reach out to other schools through several ways including mentoring and coaching, sharing of best practices, and having attachment programmes.

"As an example, if a school near the HPS has a new teacher and he wants to learn how to be a better Science teacher, he could request to shadow an expert teacher at the HPS," she explains.

At the same time, it does not mean the ministry is neglecting the other schools in the country.

"When the ministry ranks schools, it is not to shame them, but to let the schools know where they stand.

"We just want to help them improve through concrete programmes.

"We want to know whether it is a leadership problem, infrastructure or perhaps the quality of teachers," she adds.

The ministry will put a School Improve-ment Tool Kit on its NKRA website so that all schools can identify what problems they might have and work together to resolve them.

On the confusion regarding the labelling of schools such as cluster or smart schools, Noor Rezan points out that there only three categories of schools.

These are government, government-aided and private schools.

"It may seem like we have many categories of schools but these are just programmes which we have put into place," she adds.

Pada 21/2/2010, satu Malis Tahun Baru Cina telah diadakan di Masjid Muhammadiah Taman Tasek Jaya Ipoh. Majlis ini dianjurkan oleh Persatuan Cina Muslim Malaysia Cawangan Ipoh dan telah dirasmikan oleh Penasihat Agama Islam kepada Menteri Besar Perak iaitu Datuk Najmuddin Alias Al-Hafiz.

Antara tetamu-tetamu kehormat yang hadir adalah Pengarah Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Perak, Datuk Sheikh Mansor Al-Hafiz dan juga Datuk Dr. Fazli Cheah. SMIOB telah dijemput untuk hadir bagi memeriahkan majlis tersebut. Tetamu-tetamu yang juga terdiri daripada penduduk setempat telah dihidangkan dengan jamuan, persembahan oleh penyanyi undangan dan pemberian ang pow serta cabutan bertuah.

Majlis yang bermula pada pukul 8.30 pagi berakhir pada jam 12.30 tengahari.

Resipi Pulau Pinang tapi nasi kandar ‘Nasi Ganja’ popular di Ipoh

IPOH, Feb 4 — Nasi kandar yang diperkenal oleh pendatang India Muslim yang berhijrah ke negara ini begitu sinonim dengan Pulau Pinang tetapi popularitinya merebak ke merata ceruk dan boleh dikatakan tiada bandar di negara ini tidak mempunyai restoran yang menyediakannya.

Malah hotel-hotel bertaraf lima bintang turut menyajikannya melalui pelbagai promosi yang sering dianjurkan. Bagi bandar raya Ipoh, terdapat sebuah kedai “mamak” yang telah mencipta nama tersendiri hingga menjadi tumpuan peminat nasi kandar tempatan dan dari luar sejak berpuluh tahun lepas.

Nama jolokan yang diberikan kepada hidangan yang disajikan di kedai berkenaan mungkin kurang “enak” malah berbau jenayah tetapi kedai “nasi ganja” begitu terkenal di sini malahan dalam kalangan peminat dari luar Ipoh pun sudah lali dengan namanya.

Perniagaan yang dimulakan sejak awal tahun 60-an itu terus mendapat tempat di hati peminat dan penggemar nasi kandar disebabkan kelazatannya tetap sama walaupun tukang masaknya silih berganti.

Kedai nasi berkenaan sebenarnya menumpang di sebuah Kedai Kopi Cina yang dikenali sebagai Restoran Yong Suan tetapi nama restoran berkenaan tenggelam dan tidak menjadi sebutan.

Restoran berkenaan terletak di Jalan Yang Kalsom dan bagi penduduk lama bandar raya Ipoh, kawasan kedai berkenaan lebih dikenali sebagai stesen bas Tanjung Rambutan kerana terletak berhadapan dengan stesen bas yang telah ditutup beberapa tahun lepas.

Antara lauk pauk yang menjadi kegemaran para pengunjungnya ialah Ayam Wangge, Ayam Merah, Ayam Hitam dan Daging Hitam.

Tiada siapa yang tahu bagaimana gelaran “nasi ganja” diberikan kepada kedai berkenaan tetapi tanggapan umum adalah kerana rasanya yang sedap seolah-olah membuatkan orang ramai terus setia atau ketagih untuk menikmatinya.

Pengusaha asal kedai nasi kandar tersebut, Kamal Naseer Abdul Rahman telah lama meninggal dunia dan tradisi perniagaan tersebut diteruskan oleh ahli keluarga.

Waris Kamal, Nihmatullah Syed Mustafa, 44, berkata keistimewaan utama nasi ganja ialah lauk ayam merah yang dimasak menggunakan sambal kelapa yang tidak terdapat di mana-mana restoran yang lain.

“Nasi kandar ini menggunakan resipi kami sendiri. Kami menggunakan rempah yang digiling dan ia dibeli di Pulau Pinang,” katanya.

“Biasanya, kami boleh menjual tidak kurang daripada 1,000 pinggan nasi kandar sehari,” katanya.

Mengenai gelaran nasi ganja, Nihmatullah berkata beliau pun tidak tahu bagaimana ia tercetus dan memang ada pelanggan yang nakal sering bertanya sama ada resipi kedainya mempunyai “herba” terlarang itu. Beliau berkata sejak dibuka 49 tahun lepas, “nasi ganja” mendapat sambutan yang amat baik daripada orang ramai termasuk daripada pelancong asing dari Singapura, Thailand dan Australia.

Bagi pengunjung yang pertama kali, beliau meminta mereka bersabar jika ingin menikmati hidangan tengah hari kerana perlu beratur panjang untuk memilih lauk pauk. Katanya, kebanyakan pelanggannya memberitahu bahawa keistimewaan “nasi ganja” terletak pada ayam merah yang tidak boleh ditandingi mana-mana pengusaha nasi kandar lain.

Gelaran Ayam Wangge tercipta daripada laungan pekerja kedai berkenaan yang sering menjerit “Wangge, Wangge, Wangge” dalam bahasa Tamil yang bermaksud “marilah, marilah, marilah” kepada orang ramai yang lalu di hadapan restoran itu.

Sementara itu, pemilik kedai kopi, Yang Yong Suan, 58, berkata, sambutan hebat orang ramai ke atas masakan nasi kandar itu turut membantu melariskan jualan minuman dan roti bakar yang dijual di kedainya. Katanya restoran itu diwarisi daripada mendiang bapanya.

Beliau berkata kedai nasi ganja di restorannya mendapat tempat di hati masyarakat kerana peminatnya terdiri dari pelbagai peringkat usia dan bangsa.

“Kebanyakan pengunjung yang ada sekarang mula makan di sini bersama keluarga sejak 20 tahun yang lalu... dulu mereka dibawa ibu bapa dan sekarang mereka membawa keluarga masing-masing pula.

“Kami juga ada pengunjung dari utara dan selatan tanah air yang singgah di Ipoh semata-mata untuk menjamu selera di sini,” katanya.

Yang berkata suasana istimewa yang terdapat di restoran beliau ialah kehadiran pelanggan pelbagai bangsa Melayu, Cina dan India.

Katanya, pelanggan juga terdiri daripada pelbagai lapisan masyarakat dan mereka yang berpangkat besar sering duduk bersama menikmati hidangan.

Keunikan restoran itu ialah ia dijalankan secara perkongsian antara seorang tauke Cina yang menghidangkan minuman dan India Muslim yang menyediakan nasi berlauk. — Bernama

Still remember our undertaking to show the pictures of old boys from other batches reunion during Hari Raya?

This picture was taken when Michaelians batch 1997 held a reunion during Aidilfitri holidays. They were babies born in 1980. Significantly the reunion was held at Padang Ipoh, a common place for Michaelians and a place where in front of that padang, our proud school building stood still. Most of them are a working man from non professional to professional career.

The Avoidable Tragedy

How do you feel when your brother or sister died at such a young age? How do you feel when their death occurred due to others negligence?

The tragedy at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Dipang, Kampar was a tragic accident. The primary students attended a 1 Malaysia camping organized by the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Kinta Selatan. A wonderful and motivational event turned into a chaos. At 10.40pm on the 26th October 2009, 22 students fell when a bridge collapsed. The young students were between life and death and they had to hold to the bridge cable for their survival. A brave guards and a teacher saved the 19 of the students. Unfortunately, 3 of them could not be saved.

An angry parents blame the teachers for lack of supervision. And the teachers defend themselves by pointing the finger to the contractor who build the bridge. After initial investigation the police found that the bridge was not built according to it's specification.

Who should bear the responsibility? The Education Department, the teachers or the contractor?
No matter who responsible for it, few life were taken and if there was a high standard of supervision including an inspection of the newly built bridge, this tragedy will never be on the news headlines.

1-Toilet Policy???

The issues here:

1. Can "the oneness" be achieved in the smelly and filthy toilet?

2. Are the students and teachers always in the toilet at the same time and same place?

3. How long teachers and students will be in the toilet to achieve this oneness policy?

4. Are there any places apart from the toilet that this policy can be implemented?

5.Will there be a situation where the students can hear the their teachers flush their toilet?

6. Will the students believe that they are on par with academicians when sharing toilet with their teachers?

So guys....do you think this ONE TOILET policy suits with SMI?

(The Star) - The state government will introduce a “1Toilet” policy in a move to liberalise education, where teachers – and even principals – will soon have to share toilets with their students.

State Education, Higher Learning, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the policy was mooted in line with the 1Malaysia concept, and teachers and students could have a feeling of “oneness”.

“We want students to have a sense of belonging that we believe would inspire them to excel further in their education.

“When students share the toilets with the teacher, they (students) will believe that they are on par with academicians and this automatically invokes a sense of being important to an organisation, which, in this case, is the school,” he said here yesterday.

“We are not compelling the school authorities to apply the policy. It is their prerogative,” said Ahmad Razif.

“So far, we have one school in Hulu Terengganu that has implemented the policy a few days ago. It has received positive feedback from the school management although it is still premature for us to evaluate its efficiency,” he said.

Ahmad Razif said that under the policy, teachers and students would also be encouraged to sit within a common space at school canteens during recess.

“This means that teachers and students will mingle freely during recess,” he said.

Ahmad Razif said the policy had initially been proposed by Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said earlier this year but that it took some time for it to be properly drafted.

On another matter, Ahmad Razif said the state government would continue to send students to pursue medicine and dentistry in recognised universities in Indonesia.

“We are looking into the option of sending our students to universities in areas classified as non-earthquake prone areas in Indonesia,” he said.

Ahmad Razif said the state government was also in the midst of discussions with officials from University Padjadjaran of Bandung on the possibility of sending Terengganu students for medical courses there.

He said other countries that the state government was planning to send their medical undergraduates next year were Poland and Russia.

Being a Michaelian, we respect each other regardless of your race, creed and religion. Since our primary school we had studied together in one class room, sharing the same toilet and under the same roof. School is the proper forum or platform to promote this multiracial values. And St. Michael's has done a good job in keeping this tradition. When people are talking about GAGASAN 1 MALAYSIA, Michaelians had practiced this gagasan long time ago since our school days. It is not uncommon to us. We used to it and there is no need for others or the main stream media to remind us. We had been thought all this while.

Can we say or make a conclusion that SMI is the icon of ONE MALAYSIA school?

SMI has produced some young lawyers in Malaysia. The picture above is a picture of two young lawyers from SMI. On the left is Mr. Mohd Dzran from the batch of 1996 and with him is Mr. Wong Kah Woh (batch 1997), who is also an ADUN for Canning Garden Ipoh.

This picture was taken when both of them had a court trial in Kuala Lumpur Court where Mr. Mohd Dzran is acting for the Plaintiff while Mr. Wong for the Defendant. Both of them graduated with LLB.(Hons) from International Islamic University Malaysia(IIUM).

Meanwhile, apart from both of them, there are few young lawyers from SMI. They are Dato Amarjit Singh Gill who is currently practicing in Ipoh. Mr. Amarjit is a degree holder from Monash University, Australia. He and Mohd Dzran were classmate. Both of them were in 5VT1.

Our junior from the batch of 2001, Mr. Faridzul Azlan from 5VT1(2001) class is a graduate from International Islamic University Malaysia. His area of practicing is in Ipoh.

Mr. Azhar Jalaludin from the batch 1997(5VT2) who is also a practitioner obtained his LLB.(Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is currently working in KL.
Another lawyer from SMI are Mr. Mior Nor Haidir (batch 1996 and from 5sc1 class), is a UiTM grad and working with a prominent legal firm in KL.

These lawyers are SMI's proud and they serve the community for fairness and uphold the law and justice for all.

Ini ada sebuah cerita. Kisah budak-budak SMI. Sekolah yang depan padang Ipoh tu.

Budak-budak SMI dalam gambar ni nak main futsal. Mereka bermain futsal selepas berbuka dan solat terawih dalam pukul 11 malam. Kebetulan malam tu malam merdeka. Alang-alang main futsal budak-budak SMI ni pun sambut juga merdeka di Sports Planet Ipoh.

Budak-budak SMI ramai juga yang datang. Ada yang datang dari batch 96(batch ni muka wajib tayang huhu), batch 98( batch sukan komanwel huhu), batch 2000(batch y2k huhu), batch 2003(batch Pak Lah jadi PM), batch 2006( batch ADIK kepada BATCH 96; sebab beza 10 tahun dan masa bebudak batch 96 nak ambil SPM, bebudak batch 2006 baru darjah satu; ADIK kepada bacth 2006 adalah batch 2016) dan batch 2008( batch lepas SPM; tahun depan budak2 2009 pula jadi batch lepas SPM).

Mereka bermain dengan penuh semangat kesukanan disulami gelak tawa keriangan. Mereka bersatu hadapi segala cabaran sebagai satu pasukan. Itulah dia erti persahabatan SMIOB.

Futsal malam merdeka tahun ni dah habis. Tahun depan entah ada atau tak ada. Kalau ada mungkin buat perjumpaan futsal di malam lain, sama ada malam lailatul qadar, malam raya atau apa-apa malam yang ada. Yang pasti mereka akan datang dan berjumpa lagi.

Ramadhan for some people, apart from a holy month, is a month where they can gain monetary profit. For Michaelians, doing business during Ramadhan will earn them pocket money. The money will be used for savings or to spend for Hari Raya. A number of SMI students took the initiative to set up a stall at Bazar Ramadhan Medan Gopeng.

Two SMI Form 4 students, Syamim and Azam, both of them ruggerboyz, selling ayam percik, a famous delicacy during Ramadhan. The price is affordable too.

When you guys, Michaelians come back to hometown and looking for ayam percik, go and find these boys at Medan Gopeng.

Kalau sedap datang lagi. Kalau tak sedap lu pikirla sendiri......

We would like to urge all Michaelians regardless of race, creed and religion to come to Jusco Kinta City and donate your blood. Our blood can save a life. Show to the society that a Michaelian is responsible to the people and they can count on us to help those who need our help.

SMI OLD BOYS WEEKEND 2009

"One day there will be a rugby pole. By then a rugby game can be played in front of SMI building and on the SMI field. It will be a great moment when a rugby game can be played and supported and cheered by the students. And it will be the most memorable one if the SMI Rugby team can play with their old boys.

This statement was made in our last year article in June 2008. After a year, a dream comes true.(click here for the full article)

It was an enjoyable weekend for SMI Old Boys and the students. On 1st August 2009, two games were held. An unprecedented game of friendship and brotherhood which the purpose is to strengthen the relationship between the present and past students of St. Michael's Institution Ipoh.

It all began couple of weeks ago when there was a discussion on bringing the games to the school and immediately after the meeting, a letter was sent to the school for approval. The Principal then approved the proposal and the rest is history. On that day, the old boys from various batches had a chance to be there once again on the historic field.

Prior to the starting of the game, the old boys and the boys gathered at the centre of the field and they were greeted and welcomed by the Michaelian Military Band. The band performed 2 songs and one of the song is none other than our school rally. The young and old sang together and for some old boys this was the first time they sang the school rally after so many years since their school days.

After the welcoming session, the first game of the day, Rugby 10 side took stage. The old boys rugby team wore an all blacks attire while the boys with their traditional green jersey. The youngest player for the old boys team came from the batch of 2008. There were two seniors from the batch of 80's. Mr Zailizan Zainal (batch 1989) came all the way from Kedah to join the game. The oldest player was Mr. Zolfa Zain(batch 1983). Mr. Zolfa was an ex national rugger and still active and a well known figure in rugby community. The rugby team also consists of players from different batches from the 80's-00's. Meanwhile the school ruggers were mainly from form 3-5 students. The students had to face the older and bigger opponent but it was not an excuse for them as they won the game with the results 10-0.

The highlight event of the day was the football match. Now it was the school players to wear black jersey and the old boys with their green jersey. The old boys team was strengthened by the presence of MYTEAM 1 goal keeper, Amir Sharifuddin(batch 1997). Our ex 100m sprinter, Lee Kar Wai from the batch of 1996, was also the member of the team. His running ability helps the team. Several players from the different batches were also there to beat the boys. They managed to held a 0-0 draw until the full final whistle blown. However, in the penalty shoot out, the old boys team was defeated 3-2

After the games, a closing speech ceremony was held. The principal, Mr. Phoon delivered his speech. He said that he was so proud that the old boys still remember the school although they had left the school so many years and this event was an important event which can benefit the students. He had an experience witnessing such similar event during his tenure at Malay College and support such a move by SMIOB. From this event the old boys who are now a career man willing to go back to their alma mater, bringing their spouse and children and associate themselves with the students. He considered it as a "PERSAHABATAN" between the old boys and the boys. He also encouraged the current students to do the same when they leave the school. And the tradition should be continued and preserved.

Mr. Phoon wish thank you to SMIOB for organizing such a great event and he also suggested that in the future more events can be part of the agenda such as a dinner and performance night between the old boys and the boys. After the closing speech, the old boys, students and the teachers went to the canteen for lunch which was sponsored by SMIOB.

SMIOB would like to wish our appreciation to those who participate in the event.

Award-winning director Yasmin Ahmad, who passed away on Saturday night after a stroke, is finally laid to rest at 12.40pm Sunday at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam in SS20.-The Star

Renowned film and advertising director Yasmin Ahmad died here at about 11.25 pm tonight.

Her death was confirmed by Media Prime Group Chief Operations Officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Farid Ridzuan, (a Michaelian) who was at the Damansara Specialists Hospital, when contacted by Bernama.Yasmin, 51, collapsed while presenting a working paper at Sri Pentas, the headquarters of the private television station TV3 on Thursday and was rushed to the Damnsara Spe cialists Hospital. She was reported to have suffered a stroke and brain haemorrhage.-NST

The gifted and talented film and commercials director has died from massive bleeding in the brain at the Damansara Specialist Hospital. She died at 11.25pm yesterday. She had undergone surgery following her collapse at the TV3 headquarters Seri Pentas on Thursday.

Allahyarham Yasmin left a legacy of her works in the film and advertisement arenas, thriving on the themes of love, family ties and comedy against the backdrop of multiracial Malaysia. Married to Abdullah Tan Yew Leong, she began her career as a copywriter with Ogilvy & Mather before joining Leo Burnnett as joint creative director in 1993 and rose to become its creative executive director until her death.

Allahyarham Yasmin was known as a person who loves Ipoh and many of her films such as SEPET, GUBRA, MUALLAF and TALENTIME were shot in IPOH. Its beautiful scenery, calmness is suitable for a movie set. Our school had been picked as a location set for SEPET and GUBRA movies. Meanwhile, ANDERSON SCHOOL was chosen to be a film set in her latest release, TALENTIME.

The nation has lost a great artist and her works will be remembered throughout the years and the next generation. Thank you YASMIN for your adorable multiracial concept films and commercials which are truly reflects a 1 MALAYSIA.

"A splendid, marvellous and awesome performance and they should be the champions", that what was told by our correspondence who had watched our band in the final of the Perak Inter School Band Competition 2009 which was held in Stadium Perak on 24-7-2009.

According to Tihn Chern from Michaelian Military Band who had met with our representative on last Wednesday, their performance started at 10.30pm, and they pledge to give all their best in the final. Their performance was the second last in the list but the band had turned the second last to the second best.

They lost to SMK Sam Tet, Ipoh who emerged as the champions. The second runner up went to the school from Sitiawan, SMK Nan Hwa. There were 7 schools qualified to be in the final. Being the first runner up is an achievement to be proud of. We received the silver medal yesterday but on tomorrow and the upcoming days we will work hard and do our best to achieve non other the first on the podium.

The objective is to give opportunity for the SMI footballers and ruggers to meet and play side by side with the old boys and it is also a HOMECOMING event for the old boys from all over the nation to come back to school and visit their alma mater. It is an OLD BOYS WEEKEND. A weekend when the students of SMI can meet and spend time with their seniors from various batches and for the old boys and the students to communicate and sharing moments together. The old boys would like to know how's life in SMI for the current students and the students might want to know how's life after school would be.

You Are Not Alone

This is one post that I have been postponing to write, for some unknown mysterious reasons. After his death, my instinct forced me to talk something about him. But it has been delayed because I am still waiting when is the day of this greatest entertainer on earth will be buried. Yesterday I had a nightmare about death and coincidentally, today is my 30th birthday. So before it is too late, I shall write it now.

His name is exactly the same as the name of our school. But MJ is not a Michaelian. He is Michael as what he is. I remember one my Indian friend in school who had a similar name with MJ. I wonder why my friend had a such name. Maybe it was a coincidence. His transformation from an African American small boy to so called "WHITE MAN" came under heavy criticsm. Most of white people love him but some of the black people hate him too.

They are on the opinion that his transformation is a humiliation to the black community. But Michael ignore it and answered the critics by writing in his song
" If you want to be my baby, it does not matter whether u black or white".

A TRANSFORMER. He is an OPTIMUS PRIME, the good one, although some people say he is a strange man, but as one of the speaker during MJ public memorial service said, MJ is not strange, but he had to deal with strange situation around him.

His songs mostly touch the people heart worldwide. A peace and humanity message conveyed by him and well accepted by others especially the kids. His love to the unfortunate kinds around the global made him a noble man. Although he had to face obstacles and legal suits against him, he dealt it with his strong heart. His perseverance in dealing all the challenges by those who take advantage on him, finally reach to the end. On 25th of June 2009,( also my best friend's birthday) a cardiac arrest led to his demise.

He is now worth more than his life. People who used to ignore and forget about him suddenly felt his lost. They search for his album, watching his old videos in YOUTUBE and various ways for them to remember him. His childhood dream since his days with Jackson 5 was fulfilled. He did his best and believe in what he is doing. His dream to change his life from zero to hero is an achievement to be proud of. He is not a Malaysian but he is just an 0rdinary human being like us. He is not an alien and so do we. If he can do it, so do we by emulating his effort. Not to be the greatest entertainer like him but to be the greatest in what we do in our life.

Today, 1st of July at 0900 they will present their performance in front of the judges at our school for the preliminary rounds of the Perak Band Competition. The musicians from the Michaelian Military Band with their black and red attire( as seen in the picture) will play fine tunes to march into the next round.

If they succeed and capture the heart of the judges with their brilliant performances, victory will be on their side. The final of the competition will be held on Friday, 24th of July. As usual events involving the students held on working hours in which the time is not in favour for the working old boys particularly those living outside Ipoh to come and support. Hopefully the old boys who are in Ipoh can go to the school and support them.

A NIGHT IN SUBANG JAYA

Pada hari Sabtu, 20 haribulan Jun 2009, SMIOB mengadakan satu sesi futsal yang julung kalinya diadakan di Lembah Klang. Setelah hampir setahun aktiviti futsal SMIOB bertapak di kampung halaman, Ipoh, sudah tiba masanya usaha untuk mengumpulkan seberapa ramai Michaelians yang menetap di Lembah Klang selaras dengan motto SMIOB, "THROUGH SPORTS AND CULTURE WE UNITE".

Perlawanan futsal di kalangan old boys telah diadakan di HTO De FUTSAL SUBANG JAYA. Seramai 11 orang telah hadir. Satu kehadiran yang amat mendukacitakan walaupun usaha promosi telah giat dijalankan, memandangkan sambutan futsal di IPOH boleh mencecah sehingga ke 25 orang Namun demikian, SMIOB memahami keadaan tersebut. Ramai yang tidak dapat hadir kerana ada urusan masing-masing dan mereka akan cuba hadir untuk sesi futsal yang akan datang.

Perlawanan diadakan di Court 6. Kebetulan di Court 8 terdapat juga sekumpulan bekas pelajar SEKOLAH TUANKU ABDUL RAHMAN( STAROBA) yang mengadakan sesi latihan futsal mereka. Mungkin mereka sedang membuat persiapan sebelum mereka kembali ke sekolah mereka pada 26-28 Jun bagi menyambut OLD BOYS WEEKEND yang diadakan di ALMA MATER mereka di IPOH. Welcome home STARIANS:)

SMI (boys) vs MCKK (budak koleq)

The SMI Hockey team will play against the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) in the Premier School Hockey Championship. They secure a place in the second round after the victory against Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ipoh (STAR) in a dramatic sudden death penalty on 18-6-2009.

The game will be held on home and away basis. On 23th of June 2009, the collegians will entertain the Michalians on their home pitch at 4pm and Stadium Azlan Shah will be the home venue for our boys on the 25th. (The time will be informed)

SMIOB would like to urge all Michaelians (boys and old boys), parents and teachers to COME and SUPPORT the team. Travel to Kuala Kangsar and Stadium Azlan Shah on both games if you can. Len Olivero dan Mohamed Abdul Hadi (mantan kapten pasukan Malaysia) ialah dua orang bekas Michaelian yang tersenarai sebagai legenda hoki antarabangsa yang melonjakkan nama negara di persada saingan berkelas dunia. Kini, generasi muda hoki Michaelian kembali mempamerkan peningkatan. Bertempat di Stadium Hoki Sultan Azlan Shah, Ipoh, tanggal 17 Jun 2009 (Rabu),

SMI berjaya menunjukkan kualiti sebuah pasukan yang ada semangat juang, stamina dan taktikal yang baik lagi mantap. SMI bertemu STAR dengan misi membalas kekalahan tipis 0-1 (gol minit akhir) ketika saingan Zon 2 Kinta Utara untuk MSSD awal tahun ini. Nampaknya pasukan lawan telah menukar strategi dengan melakukan serangan bertalu-talu dan menguasai 80 peratus permainan pada separuh masa pertama. Hasilnya, mereka berjaya membolosi gawang SMI dengan dua gol padang (field goal) selang seminit pada minit kesembilan. Walaupun setelah itu STAR cuba menggandakan asakan, SMI berjaya mengekang kemaraan lawan.

Kedua-dua pasukan berjaya meraih satu pukulan sudut penalti (short corner), namun tidak menemui sentuhan penyudah. Separuh masa pertama berakhir dengan SMI ketinggalan 0-2. Sebaik wisel separuh masa kedua dibunyikan, giliran SMI pula melakukan serangan bertali arus dan gerakan cantik sehingga penjaga gawang STAR begitu sibuk melayan asakan bertubi-tubi SMI sambil menjerit kepada rakan lain untuk memohon bantuan (cover). Kali ini SMI pula yang menguasai 80 peratus permainan dan STAR kelihatan sudah kehabisan stamina (exhausted), walaupun sesekali berjaya membuat serangan balas. Kedua-dua pasukan berhasil mendapatkan dua pukulan sudut penalti,tetapi tersasar. Melihat ancaman SMI yang begitu bertenaga, hampir semua pemain STAR berkampung di kawasan sendiri.

Ketika kedudukan hampir kekal 0-2, Raj, pemain SMI berjaya menampan kemas hantaran bola dari luar garisan D, lalu menghalakannya ke pintu gol STAR dengan satu tolakan kencang menuju sudut yang sukar diselamatkan. SMI berjaya merapatkan jurang jaringan gol kepada 1-2.

Esok (18 Jun), kedua-dua pasukan akan bertemu sekali lagi di stadium yang sama. SMI perlu menang dengan kelebihan dua gol untuk mara ke pusingan seterusnya menentang MCKK yang mendapat bye di pusingan pertama. Jika menang 1-0, SMI bakal berputih mata atas peraturan gol di tempat lawan (esok giliran SMI berperanan sebagai tuan rumah). Jika menang 2-1, penentuan pemenang akan dibuat menerusi penalti stroke atau kaedah lain yang bakal ditentukan oleh pengadil.

Namun demikian (harap tidak berlaku), sebarang keputusan seri atau kekalahan akan mengakibatkan SMI terpaksa melupakan baki saingan sekolah premier 2009. Selain MSSD dan Sekolah Premier, SMI akan turut menghantar wakil untuk Piala Milo pada 26 dan 27 Jun ini. Untuk rekod, pada tahun 2008, SMI berjaya melangkah ke peringkat separuh akhir.

SMK St Michael, Ipoh (SMI) berjaya mengenepikan cabaran Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Ipoh (STAR) menerusi penentuan tolakan penalti sudden death di Stadium Sultan Azlan Shah, Ipoh pagi tadi. Dalam perlawanan sepenuh masa SMI berjaya mengikat agregat 3-3 setelah memenangi perlawanan timbal balik kedua dengan jaringan 2-1. Peraturan kelebihan jaringan di tempat lawan yang tidak diambil kira dalam temasya tahun ini telah memberi talian hayat kepada SMI.

Why the Finnish Educational System is the World's # 1

LONDON - Two hours drive due north from here lies the Artic Circle. But in this town of 120, 000 people one not only feels the bitter cold but also the white heat of the technological revolution. Here are the principal research and development offices of Nokia. There are 800 other high tech companies, some overflowing their expertise into neighboring Russia where they see the future "beckoning", in the words of Pertti Huuskonen, the boss of Technopolis, which is just building a big facility close to St Petersburg airport. There are probably more PhDs per square metre in this compact old paper-milling town than anywhere else on earth. This astonishing intellectual creation can be laid at the feet of the Finnish educational system, considered by all who survey it, including the OECD, as possessing the best school system in the world. Finland is also reckoned to be in the top three of the world's most competitive countries.

Why? The Prime Minister, Matti Vanhanen reduces the explanation to one pithy observation. "The teachers are respected; high talent is attracted into teaching; it is considered to be one of the most important professions", he told me.

But how did Finland get to such a happy state of being? Tapani Ruokanen, editor of Finland's leading news weekly, Suomen Kuvalehti, argues that it goes back to eighteenth century when the Lutheran bishops wouldn't allow anyone to marry unless they could read the Bible. Then in the nineteenth century there were a series a strong revivalists movements, which led to the creation of a flurry of newspapers and magazines.

The big departure that everyone refers back to was the decision by a Social Democratic government in the 1970s to turn what was then an elitist system into a comprehensive one. Before then the working class could only progress into the upper schools if they won a scholarship that covered their fees. But for the last thirty-five years the schools have been open to all, free and unstreamed.

Marie-Laure Foulon, the Stockholm correspondent of Le Figaro who has just published a book, "Le Rebond du Modèle Scandinavia" (The Rebound of the Scandinavian Model), argues that the critical ingredient in the 1970's reform was "to decide it was better to push up the bottom level to the middle than to push the middle to the top."

She says that Finland's success shows that a system based on equal opportunity is superior to one like the French, "with excellence at the top and mediocrity at the bottom." She adds, "the top will go to the top anyway." She tells of interviewing the head of the Finnish stock exchange who told her that although at the time when he was at school he felt he was not being stretched, he realizes because of the comprehensive system he now knows his peers better and that has enabled him to be a more effective businessman. "It appears", she concludes, " that equality in education creates productivity, even if it doesn't always create excellence."

Day to day, the Finnish government keeps the pressure on, indeed to such a degree that the pupils complain of a lack of fun at school, a problem that the minister of education, Antti Kalliomäki, tells me is being worked on with new proposals to extend the short school day that often ends at 2pm for another couple of hours where pupils can play sport and do their hobbies before they return home. Nevertheless, compared with say French or British children, the children should feel themselves lucky - there are no nation-wide exams or big final tests. It is a system of continuous assessment by a mixture of monthly tests and teacher evaluations.

Much of success of the educational system lies in a detailed application to the problems that can arise in all educational systems- from making sure that all children get fed by providing free meals at school to subsidised travel. Likewise no student, however badly behaved, need fear expulsion. The school is simply responsible for getting on top of whatever behaviour problems emerge.

Only 15% of those who apply to be teachers are accepted, even though pay levels are about average for Europe. No teacher can teach at any level without a master's degree. Once in a job teachers are encouraged to keep abreast of the academic literature so that educational decisions are based on rational argument, not just everyday intuition. Moreover, they are constantly being sent on courses during their long holidays to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

In short, the Finns work at it and, unencumbered by a class-stratified educational system, they have shown that equality is a plus, not a hindrance to fast progress.

The slide pictures are dedicated to the Form 5 1996. They were the KING in SMI as they are the most senior in terms of majority and based on the all boys concept.

They were graduated in SMI 13 years ago. They were baby boys born in 1979. Some of them were with SMI since Standard 1 and now they are an adult working man. Many of them have a successfull career such as a doctor, lawyer, engineer, IT Consultant, businessman, lecturer, teacher, officer and executive in private and government sector and others. Some of them had met with their life partner and be a father . And some still searching their soul partner too.

THE KING OF SMI 1996 ( including MICHAELIANS who left SMI after UPSR and PMR) will remains unite forever. Thank you to our juniors Form 1-4 ( baby boys born in 1980-1983) for your SUPPORT, OBEDIENT AND HONOUR to us. No hurt feeling if you had been harrassed, scold or bullied by us (if any). We did it for your own good, to make you strong and learn how to be a leader as you will become a successor to the throne.

And to other batches you are the KING of your own year and remember your day as the most senior students in SMI as a ONE SWEET DAY in your life.

1989-A YEAR TO BE REMEMBERED

In that year I was a 10 years old boy. But to me that year was an awesome and memorable year. After 10 years of living in this world, I have my own SMI juniors, the babies born in 1989. 10 years separate us.

Dont understand? Let me simplify it. In 1992, I was a form 1 student in SMI and my juniors were 3 years old. When I was in the final year in SMI that was in 1996, my juniors were standard 1 in SRK SMI 1 & 2 and when they were form 1 in 2002, I was a 23 years old young man. And when they took SPM in 2006, I was a 27 years old working man. This year in 2009, both of us aged 30 and 20 years old respectively.

Many events happened in that year from the winning of rock group SEARCH with it's famous hit, ISABELLA in the JUARA LAGU to the fall of communism in most of the communist countries. My favourite football club, LIVERPOOL was in the headlines too. The tragedy at Lepping Lane in Hillsborough Stadium during the semi final of FA CUP between Liverpool and Notthingham Forrest had caused the death of 96 supporters who were crushed to death and among the victim was Steven Gerrard cousin, John Paul. The Liverpool captain quote " The 96 supporters will never ever be forgotten and whenever I play for Liverpool, I play for JOHN PAUL".

The fall of communism was the highlight event in that year. The reunification of west and east Germany saw the destruction of Berlin's wall. Other main events were the fall of SOVIET UNION and the TIANANMEN SQUARE massacre in CHINA. When most of communist countries inclined towards democracy, the CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY (CCP) still hold the power. Democracy has no place here. The rules of unchallenged one party was still applicable at that time.

However, the death of Hua Yobang, a pro democracy leader in CCP in the mid of April has sparkled the students from various universities to protest against the government and they went to Tiananmen Square to express their grouses and dissatisfaction and to the extent they went for hunger strike after negotiations between the students leaders and the government failed. The students protest has outraged the Government and the premier, Li Peng with the blessing of Supreme CCP leader Deng Xiao Ping, ordered the People's Liberation Army to storm into the square on 4th of June and the order is to clear the square before dawn. The armed soldiers and with the support of tanks accomplished their mission with heavily price; the death and injuries of unarmed people.

Aftermath of the massacre, students leaders were in hiding and living in exile. The most wanted students leaders were Wang Dan, Chai Ling, Li Lu and Wuer Kaixi. Some of them are now in the United States and Taiwan. They had never returned to their homeland. In Malaysia such similar rebel by students were occured in 1974 where student leaders staged series of demonstration against not the communism but the struggle against oppression of the peasants especially poor people in rural area who were being neglected by the authorities. Leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim, Ibrahim Ali, Syed Husin Ali, Billy Lim, Hishamuddin Rais and others were the main student leaders who organized the protest in the heart of Kuala Lumpur including protest in the Universiti Malaya. Hishamuddin Rais was living in exile in foreign countries and only be permitted to return to Malaysia in 1994, 20 years after the demonstration.

The tragedy in Tiananmen Square has opened the eye of the government and as a result of the students protest, China has opened and free it's economy and in return the people must accept the rule of unchallenged single party. With the China's economic liberation, more investment came in from the western countries. This year is the 20th anniversary of the massacre and 4th of June 1989 was remembered as the day of democracy challenged the communism in China although the mission failed. Neverthless, the image of tank man ( see the picture above) remains forever in the heart of the people.

In Malaysia, the Communist Party of Malaya seized its weapons with the government of Malaysia in that year. It's leader, Chin Peng with the presence of other comrades like Rashid Maidin and Abdullah CD were in negotiation with the government of Malaysia. The outcome of the treaty is communism fall in Malaysia and the our beloved country is safe from the communist threat.

Thus, 1989 is a year that should be remembered. And dont forget in that year Allahyarham Sudirman won the Best Asian Performer award and in the closing ceremony of SEA GAMES he wore the Malaysian FLAG Baju Melayu to show his love to this beautiful country. And we must love our country too.

SMIOB 1st FUTSAL REUNION KL

YEAHHH...

Finally the SMIOB Futsal arrives in KL. The first futsal activity will be held in Klang Valley on 20th Of June 2009 (Saturday). After numerous futsal games in Ipoh including friendly games, we spread our wings to KL.

The futsal arena in Klang Valley is much alive and more competitive. Klang Valley is a home ground for most of school alumni in Malaysia. A home for STAROBA, MCOBA, SJAA, HSKOBA, VIOBA, ANSARA and others.

The venue will be at HTO DE FUTSAL SUBANG JAYA. A famous ground for the futsal players in Klang Valley and has organized many futsal tournaments.

Be there at 9pm and meet our fellow Michaelians, seniors and juniors.

UPDATE ON RUGBY JERSEY SPONSORSHIP

The ruggerboyz have the support from their old boys. On 29-3-2009, SMIOB started a project for a Rugby jersey sponsorship. A well response from the old boys. Among old boys contributors who pledge to give "the new jersey" to the boys are:-

2. Michaelian Batch 1996- the old boys from this great year will try to achieve RM1,000.00 and more.

5. Michaelians from other batch who will contribute once the date of collection announced.

As you can see from the graphic above, there is display of Michaelians 96 on the jersey.The Michaelians 1996 intend to have their batch name on the jersey. To enable their name to be displayed on the jersey, they must collect an amount of RM1K. If they succeed and no other batches can reach the target they intended to, they will have the space.

The SMIOB also encourage other batches to make group collection and if they succeed in reaching the certain amount needed, their batch name will be dislayed too on the other part/area of the jersey.

While the main space is booked by the Michaelians 1996, there are two other spaces left for the display of the sponsor's name on the jersey and those spaces worth RM500.00 each.

Therefore, for those old boys who would like their batch name or if you have your own company and want to be part of this charity project, do so by contact us through our e mail.

We pray and hope that this project will be a successful one as it will be the benchmark for other projects in the future.

SMIOB will announce the date for the collection and where to bank in your donations. If everything goes well, the production of the jersey will begins by mid of June and early July.

Our old boy and a Michaelian, Yang Berhormat Datuk Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah has been promoted to the post of Minister. He was appointed as Finance Minister 2 on 9-4-2009, the day of the new Malaysia cabinet line up announced by Y.A.B Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

He was born in 1952 in Ipoh and spent his school days in SMI. After high school, he went to pursue his studies at Universiti Malaya where he obtained his degree in Economics in 1976. He is the Member of Parliament for Tambun since 1995. Prior to his appointment, he was the Deputy Finance Minister for the same portfolio.

SMI Rugby Jersey Sponsorship-[Old Boys Give Back to School]

The cost for 25 jerseys for SMI Rugby Team: RM3,750.00

Would you be willing to contribute to the development of sports in SMI? For instance, sponsor the SMI Rugby jersey?

A poll was made in this blog. According to the results there are 58 voters who are willing to spend their RM's to sponsor the rugby jersey. I believe more old boys if being informed and told would love to give something or contribute to the school.

I have been told by SMI Rugby coach Cikgu Helmi, a successor of Mr. Choo Ah Chye since 1998, that the current SMI Rugby jerseys are in bad condition. See the current rugby jersey below:

The current jerseys had been used for more than 5 years. While other schools have their own new jersey, SMI is still wearing an old jerseys which does not reflects the standard of SMI as a great and prestige institution.

Therefore, being an old boys of SMI, I believe time has come for us to help the school. I have been informed that the school could not afford to buy a rugby jersey as it is quite expensive. If you see the graphic above, it is a custom made Kooga brand jersey. The company which design and produce this kind of jersey have also produce the rugby jersey for Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Ipoh and several universities rugby team. The SMI ruggers a.k.a RUGGERBOYZ will proudly wearing the jersey specifically design for SMI but it can be materialised if the old boys can help the school.

Therefore, would you be one of the old boys that will be remembered by the juniors as the seniors who sponsor for this magnificent rugby jersey? If you interested to be part of the contributors and any enquiries, kindly send an e mail to smi_oldboys@yahoo.com and give your confirmation.

We need to do survey on how many of the old boys would participate. I received feed back from some of the old boys that they will definitely contribute for the sake of SMI. For your information the rugby team needs 25 jerseys. The design which specifically made for SMI is also available in replica set and besides sponsor the team jersey the old boys can also buy and wear the SMI rugby jersey. If others proudly wear the all blacks, springboks and other rugby nations jersey, Michaelians can proudly say they have their own school rugby team jersey.

I know that there will be a doubt whether this project is lawful but believe me, this blog has connection with other related SMI blog and the ruggerboyz as well as the SMI rugby coach aware of this project. The details of the price of the jersey and how the donation to be channeled trough will be informed to the contributors.

My Story in SMI#3

my SMI years

Looking back at the years back when I was in SMI, really brings back lots of great memories. I was under the watch of one of the greatest principal ever known, Mr. Louis Rozario Doss. This is the place where I grew up. A place where I've gained knowledge, made great friends whom I still hang out with today, and also learned many things about life. Of course, like any teenager, I was rebellious to certain teachers, certain authority figure and so on. I do have friends and also enemies, we do have dramas, but these are moments and the memories that is hard to forget and is to cherish; as these are the time when we discover new things about this world and who we really are.

Another great person I would not forget is, the teacher advisor for the Board of Student Librarians, Mrs. Tan Kah Chuan. Although she's strict, she's the one that taught many of us to be leaders, the one that explained the 7th habits of successful people and she's the one who helped some of the troubled minded students, especially the librarians under her care.

The Michaelian Chinese Orchestra is also another part of my SMI life. There's were I learn the meaning of teamwork and cooperating. And it is the time I, together with the rest of the members, made the schoolproud as the only English school in Ipoh to have a Chinese Orchestra. It is where I learn being a teacher isn't easy, AT ALL.

A lot of other things happened back then. The dramas, the arguments, the happy moments, the sad times, the time I got punished for having long hair, the time when I skipped class and lepak at the library, the times when we scout for pretty girls when new form 6 girls step in the school, the time when we sit in food court after school hours the whole day, the time when we do pranks on people, the time when we rebel certain teachers etc; will never be written in just few pages. The tears and joy I had, the people I met and the friends I lost; are all memories I will cherish for the rest of my life, and making me lift my head high while proudly saying "I'm a Michaelian. Once a Michaelian, Always a Michaelian"

Bolasepak Liga Alumni 2009

St.John Alumni Association ( SJAA) won the double champions in 2008. They were the First Division and the Alumni Cup(Malaysia Cup version of M League) champions.

An e mail sent by the management of the Liga Alumni Malaysia to SMIOB inviting us to join the football competition. This competition was usually held in Klang Valley. The teams involved in the competition had been in the scene since the establishment of Liga Alumni Malaysia in 2000.
The objective of Liga Alumni is:-

Menyumbang kearah kemajuan sistem pendidikan negara melalui penglibatan golongan alumni

Tanggungjawab
1. Menjalin serta memupuk pertalian berfaedah di kalangan golongan alumni dan warga pendidik negara.

2. Menggalakkan penubuhan dan penyertaan alumni-alumni seluruh Malaysia di dalam aktiviti-aktiviti yang dianjurkan supaya kerjasama dan persefahaman dapat dijalin disamping memberi sumbangan kepada bekas sekolah masing-masing.

3. Membantu bekas pelajar untuk membentuk alumni sekolah masing-masing supaya mereka dapat memberi khidmat masyarakat kepada bekas sekolah dan masyarakat setempat.

4. Mewujudkan jaringan di kalangan bekas pelajar dan alumni demi kepentingan masyarakat dan negara.

5. Menyediakan medium kepada bekas pelajar dan alumni untuk memberi khidmat kepada bekas sekolah masing-masing dan organisasi-organisasi kebajikan yang memerlukan bantuan.

Penyertaan adalah terbuka bagi pasukan-pasukan bolasepak mewakili Persatuan Alumni Sekolah-Sekolah Malaysia di mana pendaftaran pemain terhad bagi mereka yang tidak mewakili pasukan kebangsaan atau bermain di dalam Liga-M.

Yuran penyertaan adalah sebanyak RM250 dan setiap pasukan akan berkongsi kos dengan pasukan lawan masing-masing bagi setiap perlawanan mereka. Yuran penyertaan adalah bagi tiga pertandingan Liga, Piala Ansara(FA CUP) dan bagi yang layak Piala Alumni(MALAYSIA CUP).

Bagi makluman semua sebuah mesyuarat pengurus pasukan akan dilangsungkan pada 4hb April 2009 jam 3.00petang bagi semua pasukan yang akan mengambil bahagian di dalam peringkat Liga.

Since we do not have a football team yet the invitation cant be fulfilled. We are not ready for the challenge but we may have a team in the future. Once we have a football team plus the commitment from the old boys and strong financial support, then we can join the competition but will be included in Division 3 first before we can join the top division in the league.

We do have a futsal team. This year SMIOB will once again be one of the competitors in the Futsal Liga Alumni 2009 which probably will be held in this coming May or June.

I'm SMI Boy...

bila aku tengok gambar2 ni balik teringat aku kat semua kawan2... rindu nak jumpa semua...sampai kepala otak terfikir nak buat reunion... mana taknya sekolah berbilang kaum...semua ada cina,india melayu,singh dll... dll??, ada lagi ke ha...??? hehehe......

banyak juga kenangan...kalau dikenangkan balik kat sekolah tu...bergaduh,bertumbuk,kena marah,kena rotan semua ada la...sebut pasal rotan tak lupa kat pengetua aku zaman Louis Rozario Dous... hahahaha... tak pasal2 kena rotan dgn dia... salahnya aku pergi tandas je...apasal entah tiba2 aku kena rotan pasal pergi toilet tu.. sabo je la...

tengok muka dia pun dah takut...nak melawan apa entah lagi... tapi mmg aku respect giler kat pengetua pasal dia mmg sayang kat sekolah dia ... tak penah putus asa nak tolong bangunkan skolah ...sampai time aku dulu prgi tandas buruk je... sekarang tandas canggih giler.. silap tak ada air-con je kalau kencing leh beku woo...hahahah..... sekolah tu kalau korang nak tau bukan under kerajaan... cuma cikgu2 je under kerajaan...tentang pembangunan sekolah tu cari duit sendiri le...

saat yg paling student2 suka kat skolah tu adalah kalo ada event... mana tak suka kelas tak ada la jawabnya...kikikiki... lagi2 kalo pengetua buat meeting... fuu...mmg best le budak2 ni...nak merayap ni la masanya... nak gaduh,bertumbuk time2 ni le...hahahaha.... terkenang lagi pasal kat sekolah teringat time hari sukan...yang paling bestnya tiap2 kelas kena buat kawad kaki waktu kemuncak hari sukan.. fight antara tingkatan...memang fight la... tiap2 tahun kelas ada menang kawad kaki 2... form 1 kelas aku menang tempat ke berapa pun tak tau la... walaupun time patut kena buat formasi kawad tapi last2 minit ketua kelas aku ckp tak payah buat...cuma kawad n tabik hormat je...

punya la penat berlatih last2 buat biasa je... tapi menang jgk...sebab kawad kemas...kikikiki... form 2 baru johan...memang terer kelas aku... tapi johan pun ada sebab.. sebabnya kelas aku ada buat baju untuk kawad kaki ditambah pulak time tu ada buat formasi lambang SMI yg lama kalau tak silap aku la.. tu yang menang tu...hahaha... semua kelas form 2 kecuali kelas aku aje yang buat baju untuk kawad kaki...kelas lain tak ada...pakai baju sekolah....kikikiki...

masuk form 3 damnnn!!! dapat tempat ke-2 sebab kali ni memang mencabar giler...semua kelas form3 time tu buat baju macam kitorang jgk...biasala mana boleh tengok orang lebih sikit...last2 dapat tempat ke-2 hampeh tol...xpe2... janji form 2 dah johan merasa jgk n tiap2 tahun ada menang...hahahaha.... tapi itu la saat2 kenangan aku kat SMI setakat form 3,

masuk form 4 aku apply aliran teknik... nak try kejuruteraan .. mohon kat ipoh aje.. brush and lebuh cator tapi dapat nun jauh di sana...kat sekolah teknik gerik... ulu perak ...kalau ikutkan ati aku mmg tak nak pergi pun tapi nasib baik le skolah tu baru 3-4 or 4-5 tahun je baru bukak... skolah baru la katakan... nasib kawan2 kat sekolah SMI pun ramai yang pergi, 1 kelas dgn aku pun ada ditambah pulak member2 sekolah Anderson n ACS tu yg buat aku nak pergi ...hehehehe...

Zaman sekolah semua dah berlalu kena drop,kutuk,marah,pukul semua 2 jadi kenangan dalam diri aku... tapi walau macam mana pun hati aku tetap kat SMI kalau orang tanya sekolah mana aku jawab SMI IPOH je...last sekali baru cakap teknik...lagu skolah tetap aku tak lupa sampai sekarang... sekolah teknik pun aku dah lupa...tapi SMI aku tak lupa...

The Modern Way of Teaching and Learning

In those days, the method of learning was a traditional kind. Teacher came to class and the students listened to what the teacher said and pen down the info on a piece of paper.

However a teacher cant spread the knowledge to the students in just one hour period of class. Can the students still learn although they are not in the school but at home?

Due to the advance of internet, teaching and learning becomes easier. Compare to the old boys days, the students know how to use a computer and how to log in to internet. Therefore, new way of teaching and learning should be implemented.

Blog is a kind of individual bulletin or individual newspaper. The author of a blog has an unlimited power to write their thoughts and philosophy so others can read and share any information. It enhance the capability of a person in writing. In other words one can be a reporter by his/her own.

A teacher's blog. In SMI we could find teachers become a blogger and open their own blog. For instance Mr. Peter Khiew, is the author of http://peterkhiew.blogspot.com. Through his blog we can share any info regarding any events in school. The latest in SMI is just by click of a mouse.

A well known Bahasa Melayu teacher in SMI, Cikgu Sidik has just recently open his own blog. His blog is purposely for his own students to gain information and knowledge particularly on Bahasa Melayu subject. Students can copy and download any learning materials and do the homework or exercise at home. Thus, instead of having knowledge in class, Cikgu Sidik's students can receive more knowledge at home.

An SMIOB representative came to school on Friday morning and together with Cikgu Sidik, they gave briefing and presentation to Form 3 students at school hall on how to access to the blog and how to download the files from the blog. A well response from the students.
Thus, it is a meeting between a teacher, an old boy and a student. These 3 combination works together for the sake of the school.

A good news is more teachers in SMI are already have their own blog and more will join the club.
